Enders Game

The new issue of EW shares a new look at both Ender’s Game, starring Ben Kingsley, as well as the Stephen King adaptation “Under the Dome.” We also have the theatrical and VOD trailer for IFC’s Tied, and a crappy new one sheet for their Berberian Sound Studio (review).

Game, starring Abigail Breslin, Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Ben Kingsley, and Hailee Steinfeld star. Ender’s Game, directed by Gavin Hood, opens theatrically on November 1st. “70 years after a horrific alien war, an unusually gifted child is sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future invasion.

“‘Under the Dome’ is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.” The 13-episode summer series will premiere June 24th on CBS. It stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy, and Aisha Hinds.

Next, we have the trailer for IFC’s Tied, directed by Helene Fillieres and based on the hit novel Severe by Regis Jauffret. It was inspired by the true story of a murder trial that mesmerized the French public in 2009. It opens May 3rd via digital outlets iTunes, SundanceNOW, Amazon Streaming, XBOX Zune, PS3 Unlimited and more. “One spring evening the Banker encounters a glamorous Young Woman. He is a man of enormous power and wealth, and that night she becomes his mistress. Together they enter a world of dark erotic desire– the desire to submit and be dominated, to possess and to be possessed, to be forced past all limits. Their games grow ever wilder, ever more dangerous, and when he promises her a huge sum of money to be his – then rejects her – the deadly bond between them is sealed.

Lastly, Berberian Sound Studio, also out via IFC on June 14, “Set in 1976: Gilderoy is hired to orchestrate the sound mix for the latest film by Italian horror maestro, Santini. As time and realities shift, Gilderoy is lost in a spiral of sonic and personal mayhem, and has to confront his own demons in order to stay afloat.” Toby Jones stars.

Dead Mail SXSW Dead Mail interview

One of the genre films we’re looking forward to checking out at SXSW this year is Dead Mail, written and directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy and premiering on March 9.

Meagan Navarro will be reviewing Dead Mail for Bloody Disgusting as part of her SXSW coverage, and she writes in her preview for the upcoming fest: “Dead Mail leans heavily into the ’80s analog aesthetic, delivering a unique crime thriller unafraid to get offbeat with its dark narrative. Expect its characters to be as atypical as Dead Mail‘s sense of style.”

In the SXSW 2024 horror film…

“On a desolate, Midwestern county road, a bound man crawls towards a remote postal box, managing to slide a blood-stained plea-for-help message into the slot before a panicking figure closes in behind him. The note makes its way to the county post office and onto the desk of Jasper, a seasoned and skilled “dead letter” investigator, responsible for investigating lost mail and returning it to its sender. As he investigates further, Jasper meets Trent, a strange yet unassuming man who has taken up residence at the men’s home where Jasper lives.

“When Trent unexpectedly shows up at Jasper’s office, it becomes clear he has a vested interest in the note, and will stop at nothing to retrieve it…”

Sterling Macer, Jr., John Fleck, Susan Priver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman star in Dead Mail. Preview the film with an exclusive image gallery below.
