It has been 3 years since Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans remake hit theaters, and I’m still fuming over the post-converted 3-D nonsense.
While you’ll never see anyone at the studio admit to the global price gouging gimmick, Leterrier admitted to The Huffington Post that it was a money grabbing scam that was both rushed and shoddily done.
“It was famously rushed and famously horrible,” Leterrier acknowledges before dropping a
not so shocking bomb. “It was absolutely horrible, the 3D. Nothing was working, it was just a gimmick to steal money from the audience. I’m a good boy and I rolled with the punches and everything, but it’s not my movie. Clash of the Titans is not my movie. And ultimately that’s why I didn’t do the sequel.”
“It’s a fun action movie, all in all,” he continues. “Some people are really happy with the movie. I tried to do the best I could, but it was not the best experience of my life, I must say. I wasn’t protected. Talking about surrounding yourself with the right people — I felt like I was really thrown at the wolves.”
I think any of us with a brain know that 3-D is the studios’ way of jacking up the price of admission – but I subject the conspiracy theory that it was about forcing ticket inflation…meaning that the goal was to cause ticket prices to skyrocket and never come back down (think gas prices) even after 3-D died. They succeeded…
