‘Clash of the Titans’ Remake Director Admits Studio Used 3-D As A Scam!!!

Clash of the Titans 3D (remake) - 1

It has been 3 years since Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans remake hit theaters, and I’m still fuming over the post-converted 3-D nonsense.

While you’ll never see anyone at the studio admit to the global price gouging gimmick, Leterrier admitted to The Huffington Post that it was a money grabbing scam that was both rushed and shoddily done.

It was famously rushed and famously horrible,” Leterrier acknowledges before dropping a not so shocking bomb. “It was absolutely horrible, the 3D. Nothing was working, it was just a gimmick to steal money from the audience. I’m a good boy and I rolled with the punches and everything, but it’s not my movie. Clash of the Titans is not my movie. And ultimately that’s why I didn’t do the sequel.

It’s a fun action movie, all in all,” he continues. “Some people are really happy with the movie. I tried to do the best I could, but it was not the best experience of my life, I must say. I wasn’t protected. Talking about surrounding yourself with the right people — I felt like I was really thrown at the wolves.

I think any of us with a brain know that 3-D is the studios’ way of jacking up the price of admission – but I subject the conspiracy theory that it was about forcing ticket inflation…meaning that the goal was to cause ticket prices to skyrocket and never come back down (think gas prices) even after 3-D died. They succeeded…

he’s just confirming what most of us have known from the get go.

Thought to movie was OK at best, but yes i remembered the 3D was pretty terrible. I can see why he was disappointed with it.

It would be interesting to know if and how the studio tied his hands during production. I would imagine there’s more to it than the 3D being used as a scam, which sounds too petty a reason to disown a film. One can always watch it 2D. But hey, who am I to say someone can’t be petty?

Go fuck himself. I don’t care what he says nows, while promoting the film, he bragged about how good the conversion was and stuff. Say anything you want but when filmmakers disagree with the studio, if they have the balls they refuse to do promotion- see Fincher for Alien 3.

  • SonOfVoorhees

All of us know its a scam. lol.He still took the pay check and promoted it though didnt he and smiled while doing it. I wish 3D would just die, we are still being force fed this gimmick though know one wants it. Incinerated above said we can just watch the 2D, and thats fair enough, but i wonder if eventually even the choice of 2D will soon be taken away.

Best thing i love. They still release these 3D movies on 2D dvd. lol.Remember Avatar and Cameron saying “This film is meant to be seen in 3D” yet he still flogged that crap movie as a 2D dvd/Bluray release to make money.

3D is NOT a gimmick. If done right it is absolutly a better experience! Jurassic park was post converted and I almost couldn`t tell the difference between converted and filmed in 3D. It`s like stereo to 5.1 surround….It enhances the natural experience we do in real life with our ears and eyes. BUT it MUST be done right! There is a healthy amount of filmed in 3D movies out there now…and the conversion is getting excellent in the last year. Give it a break guys….If you don`t like 3D, don`t watch the movie in 3D…simple as that.

Incinerated & Pink, the only problem with your “go watch it in 2D” riff is that some movies in many if not most/all places are ONLY released in 3D. PIRANHA 3D, SAW3D, etc, were ONLY released in 3D.

  • Pink

But I have to add…..Class Of the titans WAS HORRIBLE in 3D…so the guy is right about this one….it was a cash grab.

  • IHATEHIPSTERS

    the movie sucked anyway
