Ann Arbor, Michigan’s Cinetopia Film Festival will be hosting two screenings each of Haunter, the haunted house film directed by Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice) and the Korean thriller Pieta, which is directed by Kim Ki-Duk. Haunter will be playing this Thursday, June 6th at the State Theater and Saturday, June 8th at the Michigan Theater, both in downtown Ann Arbor. Pieta will be playing Friday, June 7th at the State Theater and Saturday, June 8th at the Detroit Film Theatre.
In Haunter, “Teenage Lisa (Abigail Breslin) and her family died in 1986 under sinister circumstances but remain trapped in their house, unable to move on. Lisa must reach out from beyond the grave to help her present-day, living counterpart, Olivia, avoid the same fate Lisa and her family suffered.”
In Pieta , “…a loan shark living an isolated and lonely existence uses brutality to threaten and collect paybacks from desperate borrowers for his moneylender boss. He proficiently and mercilessly collects the debts without regard to the pain he causes his countless victims. One day, a mysterious woman appears, claiming to be his long-lost mother. After coldly rejecting her at first, he gradually accepts her in his life and decides to quit his cruel job and seek a decent, redemptive life. However, he soon discovers a dark secret stemming from his past and realizes it may be too late to escape the horrific consequences already set in motion from his previous life.“
