It’s So Weird Watching Michael Cera Get Creepy In This ‘Magic, Magic’ Trailer

Published

on

Sony Pictures took Sebastian Silva’s thriller Magic Magic to the Sundance Film Festival and got quite a bit of buzz. Starring Michael Cera, Juno Temple, Emily Browning and Catalina Sandino Moreno, the film takes place in remote Chile, where a vacationing young woman begins to mentally unravel. This trailer certainly captures that, with Cera in particular using his upper crust charms to creepy effect.

In the film, “While vacationing with a friend in the spectacular Chilean lake district, young American traveler Alicia (Temple) begins seeing disturbing images visible only to her. Her best friend Sarah (Browning) suddenly returns to Santiago, leaving Alicia in an unfamiliar country surrounded by strangers (Cera and Sandino Moreno). More and more she unravels, seeing darker visions and hearing chilling noises that send her running into the woods. In this disturbing landscape, she experiences crushing terror and knows that she must escape. A destabilizing, psychological thriller recalling the best works in the genre, this film entices viewers into a world they won’t be able to forget.”

Sydney Sweeney horror

After making an impressive $21 million at the worldwide box office, NEON’s new horror movie Immaculate starring Sydney Sweeney has surprise-released at home this week.

Beginning today, Immaculate is now available for digital purchase ($19.99) and rental ($9.99)! We’ve also learned that the film is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on June 11, 2024.

The home release comes on the heels of Immaculate’s massive success at the United States box office, quickly becoming an audience favorite, grossing over $15.2mm and counting, and remaining in the U.S. box office top 10 for three weeks. The Blu-ray and DVD will feature a commentary track from director Michael Mohan, NEON has let us know this morning.

The horror film reunites Sydney Sweeney with director Michael Mohan (The Voyeurs), who directed from a script by Andrew LobelSweeney stars in Immaculate as Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent.

“Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.”

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Sydney Sweeney is this familiar religious horror movie’s saving grace. Sister Cecilia is a doe-eyed innocent whose unlikely circumstances force her into a tremendously satisfying arc. She attempts to outmaneuver a powerful foe, and when things really go off the rails, Sweeney plunges headfirst into a primal ferocity that leads to one bold, crowd-cheering conclusion.”
