Surprise! There’s Another ‘Mortal Kombat’ In The Works

Published

The last Mortal Kombat managed to reinvigorate the franchise by returning it to its roots, and that decision to bring back buckets of blood and assorted viscera made the game a huge success. I’m not a fan of fighting games — mostly because I’m dreadful at them — but that didn’t keep me from sinking an inordinate amount of time in it.

With the success of the game, the Legacy web series and the upcoming film, the Mortal Kombat franchise is bigger than ever. It should probably come as no surprise that there’s another game in the works. Details after the break.

In an interview with GamerHub.tv at Comic-Con earlier this month, Mortal Kombat Legacy producer Lance Sloane hinted that there’s another game that’s currently in development. Nothing’s been confirmed, but Sloan said the game is planned to release alongside the next film, which was recently green-lit.

“We’ve been in greenlight committee for a while at the studio and we’ve got a great script,” Sloane told GamerHub.tv. “We’ve got a great director with Kevin Tancharoen, who is on board.”

“It’s just figuring out the business side of it and when we would do it and when we would launch it and how do we sync up with the launch of the game that they’re working on now. It’s not 100 percent yet, but we’re getting closer every day.”

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
