Wicked Exclusive Poster Warns That ‘You’re Next’!

Youre-Next-3

You’ve been chosen.
The Animals are on the hunt.
And Brad… #YoureNext

That’s the e-mail I just received with an exclusive new one-sheet for Lionsgate’s You’re Next, slashing its way into theaters August 23 from filmmaking duo Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett (A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S, V/H/S/2).

The film reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. “When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped…until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

Sharni Vinson (the upcoming Patrick remake), Nick Tucci (Choose, Undocumented), Wendy Glenn (11-11-11), AJ Bowen (A Horrible Way to Die, The House of the Devil, The Signal), Joe Swanberg (A Horrible Way to Die, V/H/S), Margaret Laney, Amy Seimetz (A Horrible Way to Die), Ti West (The Roost, The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers), Calvin Reeder (V/H/S, The Rambler), Larry Fessenden (Habit, The Last Winter), Kate Lyn Sheil (V/H/S), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, From Beyond and Castle Freak) and Rob Moran all star.

Here’s Fred Topel’s review out of TIFF 2011.

“the hapless victims seem trapped…until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.”

Doesn’t seem so fresh. Sounds like an aleternate reality version of The Bleeding House where instead of family offspring being killer it’s the guest. So I call bullshit on “fresh take on home invasion.” Since bleedinghouse did that already.

Agreed. I’m still waiting to see a reason to be excited for this.

Same. Looks like The Bleeding House and the Strangers had a baby with a furry fetish. Animal masks can’t be all that scary.

That’s my big gripe about this, the animal masks. Those masks aren’t scary or threatening at all. I’ll still watch this, but damn, who chose those masks? Terrible idea. Might as well have Hello Kitty masks on.

I’m torn a little with the masks. Although they don’t look scary at all, I remember a movie called Fortress (with Rachel Ward) that had villains in masks. A duck, a cat, a mouse, and Santa, but they still managed to do the job.

This seems nothing like the bleeding house so far. Not to mention this looks like a heroine who knows how to kick ass, rather than a disturbed psychopaths daughter.

        1. Bleeding house was about a home invasion done intelligently through the serial killer and was very psychological.
        2. The daughter, the main character/anti-hero, is a twisted girl who collects dead things, willingly breaks a bird’s neck to piss off her mother, kills two people rather brutally, and probably the most self empowered female in a horror movie in a long time that didn’t really look like a normal female lead in a horror movie. Spoiler: She knew how to kick ass and wasn’t a disturbed psychopath’s daughter. She was just a fucked up girl already on her way down that road and she bludgeoned a bitch with a rock and the final fight scene with the bad guy is brutal but also kind of poetic.

I’m down for bad-ass women in horror that just don’t show their tits and run around screaming or end up like Daphne from Scooby Doo. Just saying that The Bleeding House had a twisted female lead who turns the tables and takes no bullshit first. It’s a really great psychological horror movie. I’m assuming this movie will be like V/H/S and it’s sequel in that it will be extra brutal and sexualized (not a bad thing.)

Sounds similar to me but I have yet to see “The Bleeding House.” The “Your Next” screening I went to had the crowd yelling, screaming and most surprisingly laughing throughout the whole film. Its was pretty much made to be a crowd-pleaser and it delivers

Its not the best home invasion movie around but it is one of the better black comedies out there. As soon as the movie establishes that, it becomes very entertaining. People will definitely like it, I certainly did.

I think it’s too early to call it a rip off of anything. I don’t really give a damn what it looks like. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

what most is attracting me to this movie is the fact the heroine will be turning the tables on the killers. give me a strong female heroine who kicks ass and i’m there!

The animal masks are actually a throw back to fairy tales. Besides what the hell were you guys expecting? I have never seen a mask in a horror film that was ‘scary looking’. Quit bitchin’ and wait to see the movie.
