Third ‘X-Files’ Would Return To Mythology, Cast Simon Pegg…

In an exclusive interview with Empire, “X-Files” show creator Chris Carter revealed that a third film would return to the franchise mythology, and will have a role available for Simon Pegg, if he were to choose to accept it.

It’s really up to Twentieth Century Fox, whether they have the will to do it,” he tells the UK mag. “I think all of us are interested in putting the band back together. I have an idea for a third movie in my head. The colonization date has passed [in the series, the date for the alien invasion was December 22, 2012 – Ed.] and that is something we wouldn’t ignore. For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology.

With The World’s End now in theaters, it’s interesting that Carter reveals that he nearly cast star Simon Pegg in the second film.

Gillian [Anderson] worked with Simon Pegg on a movie [2008’s How To Lose Friends And Alienate People] and told me that he was a big fan,” he reveals. “We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way.

Even though the second “X-Files” movie was an absolute atrocity, I would love to see a third film swing back into focus on the alien threat and how Scully and Mulder handle their inside Intel.

i never liked the mythology eps very much. they got especially convoluted and stupid towards the end of the show’s run. i much prefer the “Monster of the Week”/stand alone eps.

I found the ‘core’ mythology of the grey aliens to be ok, but when it started expanding with the oil, the clones, the invasion blah blah it went ridiculous. If they can somehow cut back, streamline it and make it all make sense again? I’m all for it. Hell I’m all for a new series of the X Files with Scully as the head of the FBI and Mulder still heading up the X Files itself.

Many of the stand alone episodes were great but I was always much more interested in the main mythos of the series. Well the first four seasons anyways. And once the “super soldier” and Scully’s baby being the “chosen one” bullshit started there was no saving it. If they could however capture the mystery, darkness and intrigue of those first four seasons with some new alien stuff I’d be more than down. And yes the second movie was goddamnawful. It had some decent cinematography and settings but the script, directing, dialogue, acting and everything else was torture to sit through.

The only way they can get passed the died in cast ending is to introduce a new threat. Someone else came along and desheveled the plan by the big bads of then.
Also, they should play up the storyline of William, he must be nearly a teenager right?
What if he is abducted for some reason or other,
What if Doggett and Reyes are still at the FBI, I would like to see them worked into the story somehow. Perhaps they are investigating still and they pull Mulder and Scully into the story.
These things need to be connected.
P.S. I wish they hadn’t killed off the Lone Gunmen!

Check out the X-Files Season 10 comic adaptation. I found it to be pretty good and it picks up the William thread and some other mythos questions that never got answered in Season 9
