The Horror! The Horror! Lemire’s ‘Animal Man’ To End In March

I doubt anyone would have guessed that Jeff Lemire’s “Animal Man” would have lasted this long upon launching over two years ago. It has consistently been one of the best horror titles from the New 52, but, sadly, his run will come to a close early next year. Lemire announced on his blog that the series will end with “Animal Man” #29.

“As sad as I am to be finished writing the solo stories of Buddy, Maxine, Ellen and Cliff, I am also excited to announce that I will continue to write the monthly adventures of Animal Man when he becomes regular member of the new ‘Justice League’ book I am writing,” Lemire said in his blog. “After finishing the script for #29, I felt I had completed the story I wanted to tell with the Baker family and thought it was a perfect ending for the series. The best way for me to explore new things with the character would be to move him to a team setting and shakeup his status quo, DC agreed, and the ‘Animal Man’ series will end with my final issue in March.”

Lemire’s new “Justice League” title is of course “Justice League Canada”, which you know I’m stoked for, being a good Canadian boy. We don’t know much about the series yet, but it will include Adam Strange, Hawkman, Green Arrow, a new Cree heroine, and Animal Man.

Lemire will also contribute art to the final issue, and here is his cover:

I really liked the reboot but it just seemed that it ran out of steam.

Justice League Canada—what’s that all aboot?

Damn, I was really hoping this would get handed over to another creative team. Animal Man and Swamp Thing started strong but got stale as Rotworld dragged on and started repeating itself. Swamp Thing bounced back after Snyder left the title and I was hoping to see the same for Animal Man.
