[TV] First Look At Michael Pitt As Mason Verger in “Hannibal”!

I am ashamed to not be caught up on “Hannibal.” I haven’t watched any of this season yet, but after hearing how it’s even better than last year I promise to buy it on iTunes and check it out ASAP. In the meantime, while you wait for Friday’s episode 2.09 “Shiizakana”, we’ve got a little treat for you.

If you saw Ridley Scott’s 2000 film Hannibal, or if you’ve read the book by Thomas Harris, you’re familiar with the batsh*t crazy character of Mason Verger. Director David Slade has circulated a picture of Michael Pitt (Funny Games, The Dreamers) as the character. Granted, this is before that unfortunate business with the pigs, but it’s still nice to see how his visage looks before it’s been digested.

The character is being described as “Joker-esque”, which means absolutely nothing to me. Best to just wait and see.

Evan, this season has been very much on point. Definitely give it a watch. I swear though I don’t know how they get away with some of the violence they show. It’s great stuff (though none of it is as gross as season one’s mushroom farm, in my opinion). I’m glad NBC has kept it around and I’m hoping the fact that it’s an international production will help it get a 3rd (and 4th, 5th and 6th) season renewal. But Katherine Isabelle was introduced last week as Margot Verger so I’m excited to see her and Pitt share the screen!

Agreed about Michael Pitt. I never really found him that attractive but that picture does him good!

Mason Verger cut his own face off. The pigs were his demise

In the film/book canon, yes. But the show has already deviated from that by killing off Dr. Chilton in a pre-Red Dragon timeline so they might change Mason’s fate as well.

Well I think it’s because it’s “just” violence. Hannibal features very little sexual content which I think helps its case because that’s all Americans worry about. But I agree the violence in this show is R-rated material for sure.

for sure- and the funny thing is there is a very small number of films that actually needs sexual content for their story- trainspotting, dragon tattoo for example-

still i think my bigger point is that studios are just too afraid to take a chance and we end of with the same pg13 dribble every time – storywise and violence wise.
