‘Mortal Kombat X’ Reveal Trailer Asks: Who’s Next?
Fighter fans and gorehounds rejoice! Mortal Kombat X is official, it’s coming in 2015, and its reveal trailer, which you can find below, is teasing some intriguing changes to the series.
For one, it looks like the fighters will be able to interact with the environment, as Sub-Zero rips a branch from a nearby tree and turns it into a melee weapon mid-fight, then he swings on another branch to kick Scorpion in his ugly, vengeful face. We’ve seen a bit of this in past entries in the series, but never to this extent. Knowing your way around each environment could be very important.
Another change they’re teasing is the option to choose between multiple variations of each fighter. According to the press release, this will impact “both strategy and fighting style.”
“Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilize the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios. “The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.”
Mortal Kombat X is slated to release on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2015.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
