[TV] “Hot in Cleveland” Survives A Zombie Apocalypse

Published

on

We don’t cover “Hot in Cleveland,” clearly, but out of the San Diego Comic-Con we learned of an upcoming animated episode in which Melanie, Joy, Victoria, and Elka see what life in Cleveland would be like if a zombie apocalypse were to hit the city.

Animation studio Titmouse, Inc., create the art for the cartoon versions of the characters played by Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and Betty White in the episode, entitled “The Animated Episode.” An animated LeBron James also makes an appearance.

In the ep Melanie (Bertinelli), Joy (Leeves), Victoria (Malick), and Elka (White) embark on an around-the-world adventure that starts at Elka’s apartment, which, up to this point, has been a mystery. They (and we) soon find out why. From there the women go on a psychedelic romp through pop culture favorites, including scenes reminiscent of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, “The Walking Dead,” and Frankenstein.

Viewers love that we take their favorite sitcom stars and put them in our original sitcoms so we’re sure they are going to love seeing these characters in an entirely new, animated universe,” Larry W. Jones, TV Land’s president said in a statement previously released by the channel. The below footage debuted at the “Legends of TV Land” panel at San Diego Comic-Con this morning moderated by Jones.

“The Animated Episode” airs Wednesday, July 30, at 10PM ET/PT on TV Land.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
