Mel Brooks Joins Voice Cast of ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’!

I seriously thought I was going to hate Hotel Transylvania and ended up enjoying it quite a bit (read my review). In fact, I’m sort of excited to see the sequel, even more so after this fresh casting news…

Mel Brooks, the legendary comedian and filmmaker, has joined Hotel Transylvania 2 as the ancient vampire Vlad — the cranky old father of Adam Sandler’s Dracula, says USA Today.

The film arrives in theaters Sept. 25, 2015, and is directed by the returning Genndy Tartakovsky.

The centuries-old Vlad is “like my real, honest-to-goodness personality. I’m pretty grumpy,” jokes Brooks, 88. “It was a good choice.”

The first Hotel Transylvania in 2012 explored the generational gap between Drac and his young (for a vampire) 118-year-old daughter Mavis (Selena Gomez), her need to see the world outside the family hotel and her attraction to the hapless human Jonathan (Andy Samberg).

Further adds the site:

A family get-together in the follow-up feature brings Vlad to town — along with some secrets and drama — to visit the estranged son he hasn’t seen in years. He turns everybody’s life upside down, from Drac, Mavis and Jonathan to hotel regulars such as Frank (Kevin James), Wayne Werewolf (Steve Buscemi) and Murray the Mummy (Keegan-Michael Key).

Jonathan found Drac intimidating in the original movie, but he’s really weirded out by Vlad. “He actually lives in a cave — he is about as old school as it gets,” says producer Michelle Murdocca. “So when he comes and sees that Dracula is running a hotel, he’s like, ‘What is going on here?’ ”

Vlad can be mean and tough, Brooks acknowledges. “He doesn’t treat Dracula with a lot of respect and they’re often at odds. It makes for some wonderful comedy.”

Little Mermaid horror

Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get the twisted treatment.

Originally published in 1837, the original tale of The Little Mermaid is now in the public domain, and MSR Media International presents their own horror version of the tale this year.

The Little Mermaid is being distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, and the film has officially been rated “R” this week for “Language, some violence and brief nudity.”

In the film from director Leigh Scott, “Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist, makes a dramatic discovery on a small Caribbean island—proof of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society. While his dig is in progress, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey and falls in love. Her arrival coincides with several mermaid sightings and strange disappearances.

“When Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, Ashley uncovers the true identity of Aurora and the dangers of the hidden evil inside Eric’s dig site. Will Eric heed his friend’s advice, or will he be blinded by love and the power of the siren, allowing the world to fall to the forces of evil?”

Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff and Jeff Denton star in The Little Mermaid.

You can watch the trailer now over on MSR Media International’s website.
