The Alternate ‘Evil Dead’ Ending Aired In the UK!

Evil Dead

We’ve been investigating missing footage ever since Fede Alvarez’s insane Evil Dead remake hit theaters back in 2013. Bruce Campbell denied its existence, even though early trailers and stills proved there was in fact a variant finale.

Bloody Disgusting reader Alexis Ekizoglou just tipped me off to an IMDB thread where a user alleges that a UK television presentation of the remake was a never-before-seen extended version that carried a heap of missing footage.

Proof? Ah, we gotcha. Below we not only have the alternate ending, which shows Mia (played by Jane Levy) – arm missing and all – on the side of the road begging for help, but three other scenes clipped from the theatrical cut of the movie! It would be awesome to see this released in an extended version here in the States. After multiple viewings, I’m still a fan of the movie.

  • peps

all these scenes would’ve made the movie so much better!! i don’t understand why they cut them

    • rezblue

That alternate ending was terrible, what are you talking about? She opens her eyes and “scary music”? It was so cliche and made no sense.

      • Sean

Agreed. Notwithstanding the new show they should still continue this series.

      • J Jett

i’m wondering if when she opens her eyes they were supposed to show that she was still possessed.

        • CTHL

That was what I was thinking. It’d fix my one big complaint with the movie at least… that she got cured (on top of how). Super cliche either way, but I think better than what we got.

          • GrossGreg

Nah. It’s a twist ending. The twist is that she isn’t possessed.

      • James

Aside from the ending they easily could have kept the other scenes.

  • J Jett

these are awesome! why weren’t they put back into the DVD/BR release? the only part that is stupid is when the truck driver walks up and says “ARE YOU OK?” to a woman who is face down and bloody on the road. lol. but i love the scene where David blows up the cabin and at the very end we see him get possessed.

    • Chrissie-Watkins

Hahaha, yeah, right? “Yes, of course, I’m fine. Why do you ask”? I feel like this actually happens in movies a lot.

  • Ryan

that fire scene straight up kicks ass.

  • huntermc

I was really disappointed that there was no unrated director’s cut version of this released.

    • I still have a feeling that they will release a directors cut eventually after they milk the regular release first. I mean how many copies of the Evil Dead DVDs and Blu-Rays have there been? More then any other movie that I am aware of.

  • j. prophit

that ending was shit imo, but those other scenes really should of been in the OG release!!

    • Phil

      Agreed.

  • They should have at least included these on the Blu-Ray/DVD as deleted scenes. I wonder why they didn’t?

    • Leebo

So they can re-release it later so we have to double-dip.

  • redeyedjedi410

I still love this movie. One of the best reboots or whatever you want to call it in the horror genre.

  • Jako TC Kaioh

I don’t care for the alternate ending, its disappointing, especially because the alternate ending for the army of darkness was totally different. All of the other scenes are very good to be honest. Its probably my favorite remake ever.

  • J Jett

wasn’t Mia supposed to be still possessed when she opens her eyes in the alt ending? that’s the only way that “opening her eyes” scene would have been a “Holy Crap!” ending. her just opening her eyes and showing her baby blues has no big gottcha.

    • FlobotingIt

I feel like that might be the point? Like, I mean, I know what you’re talking about, I thought she was still possessed, that’s what I read somewhere, but I feel like the “big gottcha” is there being no “big gottcha”. Like, kind of parodying all the Friday the 13th movies, how you know for a fact that Jason is dead, yet out of no where OH THERE HE IS BE AFRAID KIDDOS!

  • Pistol P

It would’ve been too dope if the dude driving the truck in the alternate ending turned out to be Ash himself!!

    • DBZEROGRAVITY

I honestly expected it to be. what a letdown

      • Glen ‘G’ Sproston

Same here, I was like come one it’s got to be him! …oh…

        • Wolf-man

Yeah especially, considering the scene was leading up that way. Your sitting there thinking “Ok this is going to be Ash coming out of that truck.” then some random old guy comes and your just like “who the heck is this guy?” It seemed like a tease.

    • Cory D

I was thinking the exact same thing

  • Bill-Carson

    Still a crap film.

    • Damian

      No. It’s not.

  • Pedro García

Yes it is, the last Sunday I see this version on Channel4 in Switzerland, was amazing!

  • Endless

    lol. “deleated.”

  • DBZEROGRAVITY

would have been nice of them to include these on the bluray/dvd release… guess they’re preparing for a double dip with the series coming out

  • GunsOfNavarone

Clip 1 is awesome – I remember that scene from the trailer and was wondering where it was.

  • Jason L.

The girl on the ground looked like she needed a hand.

    • concerned citizen

      I’d give her one.

    • Dr. Storm Crow

      HA

  • John

I’m so glad they didn’t use that ending, I feel like I’ve seen it 10x before.

    • CTHL

As opposed to the boring happy ending? I think both suck. This new one would be ok if she had the evil eyes again… cliche no doubt, but better. As is is really stupid though, I agree.

      • LoveAnimation

I love happy endings and thats what i usually want to see at the end of the movie.
If the evil wins at the end of the movie and the main characters dies or something else terrible it does not feel that satisfying or great to me.
Im a huge horror fan but i dont like that so many horror Movies got unhappy endings.
Horror video games usually end happy atlest and i love that.

  • Krug09

I always hate when we never get to see different versions of a film. I have bought many bootlegs and seen movies in the theaters that were different on the dvd release. As for this movie. I don’t mind that ending. The movie was kind of forgettable but not bad.

  • CTHL

Rather tired of Campbell/Raimi’s utter BS when talking about anything Evil Dead. So much shady milkery…

  • Zahk Scott

    Loved this remake.

  • bz928

she is clearly drenched in blood and missing a hand… “Are you ok kiddo?”

    • The Almighty Foust

“oh, I’m fine, sir, just got a little boo-boo”.

  • astronauta69

i love this movie, please make a sequel!!

  • Erick Lorinc

They should have definitely kept that last clip. It clears up the whole “Did the dog count?” debate and it was just generally cool

  • ashdead86

Yeah I wish those deleted scenes would of been part of the blu-ray but… It doesn’t matter anymore cause Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are coming back with Ash VS The Evil Dead on the stars network. SO this remake reboot or what ever it is doesn’t even matter…. I’m looking forward to the originals coming back!

    • Bouncy X

wouldn’t say it doesn’t matter…i imagine the reception to the remake helped in making the show possible. i dont recall what its box office was like but i know it was a very positive reception by many, much more than people expected when the news of a remake hit.

and i wouldn’t be surprised to see the show connect to that movie somehow.

  • ThunderDragoon

It was nice to see all of these scenes. I really love this movie.

  • Richter Belmont

Do you mean to tell me that not one movie pirate in the UK got a hold of this copy to upload to the internet? For shame. Pirates … your honour is at stake and you failed.

    • Leebo

It will be repeated at some stage so someone probably will, you have to remember that it wasn’t announced beforehand that it would have extra scenes…..
Also remember that Channel 4 is a tv station with ads, so someone would have to re-edit first before uploading.
I’m sure though that now it’s been on Channel 4 there will be an extended UK dvd/blu within a month.
Channel 4 (or Film4 – I don’t recall which) were the first to show the uncut original Evil Dead in the UK, a little earlier than it’s uncut release on dvd.
What we have to remember is that the “video nasty” version of The Evil Dead that was released and then banned in the UK was already cut by about a minute or so, as it was the BBFC approved cinema version.

  • Charlie Kelly

If she was lying on the ground like that, with her hand missing….. I would have poked her with a stick IfYaKnowWhatIMean

    • James

Barney, stop poking the body with a stick…

      • Leebo

I wouldn’t be using a stick to poke her with, IfYaKnowWhatIMean…..

  • Jonathon Asuna Leafa Richards

which UK channel did this air on?

  • RawBeard

I thought Bruce Campbell was going to get out the truck then. Clamp a Chainsaw on her stump and say “Welcome to the club Kid… Groovy!”

    • Bouncy X

i remember that being a rumor when the news of that scene came out back then.

  • concerned citizen

Well that Clip 2 certainly goes some way to explaining the “Five Souls Mess” (as all the kids are calling it).

I really love this remake. It’s strong and gutsy, and I’d like to see all of that footage reintroduced into an extended cut.

  • Dr. Storm Crow

Aside from that ending, all the other scenes would have been awesome in the movie. I want to see that cut.

  • Lucca Cantisano

Wow, this – excluding the ending – could’ve actually made the film even better! Also, clip 2 seem like a rather expensive scene to be cut out like that, maybe those clips are part of the “3 minutes” we heard they had to cut for the rating? And that ending there was the ending of the script, really, I didn’t like it when I read it either.

    • James

I liked the shot of her walking down the road and collapsing in front of the car. Kinda wish they just left it at that.

  • Guest

I just posted all deleted scenes on Youtube (watch it before it will be taken down :p)

  • Guest

Rest of deleted scenes on Youtube (watch it before it will be taken down)

  • Dr. Satan

oh, so nice to see these fucking scenes now! after I already bought the damn blu ray the day it came out, so excited to see these cut scenes. thanks so much Fede! maybe next time include the motherfucking cut scenes to the blu ray release!

    • Dr. Satan

also, HUGE thanks go out to BD, and anyone else in the UK or elsewhere online that make these possible to see! true horror fans everywhere salute u!

  • Dennis Giles

Yeah to be honest..the ending of her in back seat is about all really I can is worthy of an inclusion ..the rest is ..crap !Be Thanks for the time and effort for the upload.
    Hats off !

  • Chance LeBoeuf

The fire scene inside the cabin was really good. That should have definitely stayed in.

  • Johannna_L

Shit gives new meaning to found foootage film.

  • Hannah S.

Melon Farmers got to the bottom of this. It is a total MISTAKE. StudioCanal fucked up and sent Channel 4 (the UK broadcaster) the wrong master. It won’t be broadcast again: http://www.melonfarmers.co.uk/tp15a.htm#Dead_Lucky_for_Viewers_12849

    • Andy Rankin

      It has been tonight.

      • Hannah S.

The incorrect master? I can’t believe they’d make that error again!

  • Lee
