Guillermo del Toro Not Directing “Hannibal” Episode

Published

Earlier this week we shared the exciting news that Guillermo del Toro would be directing one of the finale three episodes of “Hannibal”.

The news came out of a De Laurentiis Company’s April newsletter that named the directors helming the final three episodes of Season 3 of “Hannibal”.

“Shooting back-to-back, the last three episodes of the season are being directed by Guillermo del Toro, Guillermo Navarro, and Michael Rymer.”

This morning, De Laurentiis Company took their lumps like champs, admitting the announcement was a mistake, and apologizing for it. No matter, we still look forwards to the third season of “Hannibal” and hope that it does good enough for NBC to warrant a fourth…

Created by Bryan Fuller and produced by the Dino De Laurentiis Company, the series stars Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne and Gillian Anderson.

“Hannibal” returns June 4, 2015.

Here’s some previously reported casting news to look forward to:

Richard Armitage was recently cast to portray serial killer Francis Dolarhyde, a.k.a “The Tooth Fairy.” Rutina Wesley, of “True Blood,” signed on for the role of Reba McClane, a blind woman who is Dolarhyde’s last chance at humanity.

“True Detective” villain Glenn Fleshler portrays Cordell, the attentive and creepy doctor in Season 3, they explain. A character from Thomas Harris’ “Hannibal” novels, Cordell cares for the disfigured Mason Verger.

The show also replaced “Boardwalk Empire” actor Michael Pitt with Joe Anderson for Verger’s role.

Zachary Quinto will appear in at least one episode go “Hannibal” as a patient of Bedelia (Gillian Anderson).

While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on BD this morning.

This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes (The Bigfoot Trap, Painted in Blood) is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.

You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!

In Alien Hunt, “On a hunting trip in the wilderness, a group of siblings discovers an abandoned military outpost on their land, but is it what it seems?

“Their trip takes a sinister turn when they find themselves facing off against a relentless army of extra-terrestrial beings. Suddenly, the hunters become the hunted.

“The formidable squad of alien soldiers will stop at nothing to wipe out the enemy and in an all-out, brutal battle for survival, it’s kill or be killed in Alien Hunt.”

Barron Boedecker (Escape Pod, The Bigfoot Trap), Brent Bentley (The Perfect In-Laws, Haunt Season), Deiondre Teagle (The Visitor, Painted in Blood, Death Ranch), Chelsey Fuller (The Bigfoot Trap, The Silent Natural), Jesse Santoyo (A Nashville Country Christmas, Potter’s Ground), and Adam Pietripaoli (The Bigfoot Trap, The OctoGames) star.
