[E3 2015] New ‘Doom’ Trailer, Multiplayer Details
Forget what I said, an identity crisis isn’t the biggest problem id Software is facing with their upcoming reboot of the Doom franchise. The real issue is who’s going to clean up the bloody mess of severed limbs and demon giblets that a certain well-armed space marine is leaving in his wake. I almost feel bad for all those monsters.
If you missed it, Doom is coming Spring 2016 to PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Bethesda showed off about eight minutes of footage at their press conference earlier tonight, and now we have some more, starting with this new trailer.
As for those other details I promised, let’s start with some new revelations regarding the single-player campaign, which Bethesda has revealed will be at least partially set in Hell. Pinky, Cacodemon, Cyberdemon and Mancubus have all been confirmed, as have the double-barreled shotgun, chainsaw and rocket launcher that we’ll be using to mow them down.
Three of the game’s multiplayer modes have also been confirmed, including Domination, Freeze Tag and Clan Arena. The UAC facility will serve as the location for one of the maps.
Doom will also come with built-in modding tools with Snapmap, which they promise will be extensive enough for skilled modders while remaining accessible to the less technically inclined folks such as myself. Snapmap lets anyone build and instantly share their creations with the rest of the Doom community.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
