While we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws all week here on Bloody Disgusting, Warner Bros. is prepping a giant shark movie that could be the Godzilla of the sea.
After nearly 20 years of development, the bigscreen adaptation of New York Times best-seller Meg – about a giant, prehistoric shark – is swimming closer to the surface, says Variety.
The news gets even larger as horror veteran Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel, The Green Inferno, Knock Knock) is in talks to direct the Warner Bros. tentpole, which is based on the Steve Allen novel.
“In the book, the story revolves around two men who band together to neutralize an ancient shark that’s threatening the California coast. The Megaladon, considered one of the largest and most powerful predators in history, can reach a maximum length of 60 feet.”
Belle Avery and Colin Wilson are producing Meg from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris.
