There was chatter out of the San Diego Comic-Con that M. Night Shyamalan’s “Wayward Pines” could return for a second season.
I always thought this was weird as the FOX series is pegged as a single-season “event.”
After last night’s episode, a promo aired for the season finale, which was promo’d as the “series finale.”
SpoilerTV reached out to FOX and received official confirmation that next week’s episode is indeed the conclusion.
“The series was always conceived and presented as 10 episodes only so next week is the finale,” said a rep for FOX.
Matt Dillon stars as a Secret Service agent goes to Wayward Pines, Idaho, in search of two federal agents who have gone missing in the bucolic town. He soon learns that he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.
I’m a huge fan of the show and have been pushing it heavily here on Bloody. Now, with the finale airing next Thursday, I’m actually happy that it’s ending. Much like every other television series, this shows falling on its face. It’s really hard to deliver a fulfilling “twist”, and that’s ultimately what’s happening here. I can’t even imagine having waited 4-5 seasons to find out the secret behind Wayward Pines, and celebrate this being the grand finale.
I think FOX is smart for sticking to the original plan of a single-season, much like “American Horror Story” or “True Detective” tells individual stories. Shit, maybe “Wayward Pines” returns in a new incarnation, although I don’t see any way of telling a new and interesting story that’s not somehow related to “Wayward Pines.”
