Quentin Tarantino Didn’t Like Wes Craven’s ‘Scream’; Would Have Sent it “to the Moon”!

Remember the time Quentin Tarantino was in talks with New Line Cinema to direct the “Ultimate” Friday the 13th sequel?

Even though many of his films dabble in the genre, and he did co-helm Grindhouse with Robert Rodriguez in 2007, I would die to see a full-blown Tarantino horror film.

An ultimate Friday the 13th would have been a fan’s wet dream, mostly because the franchise was in desperate need of fresh eyes, and Tarantino’s vision presumably would have been a reinvigorating take on Jason Voorhees.

In an interview with Vulture, Tarantino reveals the initial shocker that Robert Rodriguez had been approached by the Weinsteins and Dimension Films to helm Kevin Williamson’s screenplay for “Scary Movie,” which eventually became Scream under the direction of Wes Craven.

When asked if there were any franchises that Tarantino would actually want to direct, he replied with this BOMB.

“I could have imagined doing the first ‘Scream.’ The Weinsteins were trying to get Robert Rodriguez to do it. I don’t even think they thought I would be interested.

“I actually didn’t care for Wes Craven’s direction of it. I thought he was the iron chain attached to its ankle that kept it earthbound and stopped it from going to the moon.”

It drives me crazy when an interviewer lands in a pile of gold but stops digging. Can you imagine what kind of followup he would have to this? What would he have done to send it to the moon? I want to know, dammit!

It’s also insane that Tarantino implies he would have done it if asked – not to mention that we should all be thanking the movie gods that Rodriguez didn’t end up directing. It’s not all that surprising that Rodriguez was in the mix considering he helmed From Dusk Till Dawn and The Faculty for Dimension Films…

Can you imagine what kind of world we’d live in if Tarantino helmed Scream?!
