Perhaps one of the most anticipated horror movie titles coming this year is Michael Dougherty’s Krampus, the Christmas-themed tale that pits a family against the “anti-Santa”. Fans were blown away by the trailer, which teased a film packed with practical FX, engaging characters, and a wild mythology based upon an old European superstition.
As we come upon the release of the film, we have an exclusive interview with director Michael Dougherty and star David Koechner about the film. We dive into the usage of practical FX, with both Koechner and Dougherty praising the medium and how it allows everyone a chance for better, more believable reactions. Additionally, they discuss the family dynamics in the film and how this is a throwback to 80’s fantasy/horror films such as The Gate and Legend. Give it a view below!
In Krampus, “When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.
All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.”
Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Lavie Owen with Krista Stadler star in Krampus.
