Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Will Focus On Newt?!

Here’s how to erase all of the Alien sequels from existence…

Right now all eyes are on Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel/Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant, which is shooting in February/March for release on October 6, 2017.

When Scott decided to focus solely on this franchise, it forced Fox to indefinitely delay Neill Blomkamp’s already announced Aliens sequel, which would bring Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn back, while ignoring the third and fourth films in the franchise.

Biehn spoke candidly with Icons of Fright, in which he reveals that Blomkamp will bring Newt back, while also using her to further the franchise (in a new direction).

They’re planning on bringing me and Newt back and at this point Newt will be around twenty-seven years old. I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it’s really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt. It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that’s what the bottom line is now: money.

First of all, this is genius as Blomkmap has found a way to legitimately exit the path that leads to Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection. By bringing Newt back, they can reintroduce her character, and lead her down a separate hallway of sequels that live parallel to the others that already exist. I’m a huge fan of Newt’s character because of what she stands for in James Cameron’s Aliens. I’ve always loved Cameron’s director’s cut, which focused more on the dramatic aspects of Ripley, and how she’s lost her daughter – thus, Newt becomes her motivation. I’m in the extreme minority, but I prefer this cut.

Biehn feels strongly that the sequel will happen, eventually, mostly because it would be an egg to the face of Sigourney and himself:

“I know that Ridley’s focus is on the second PROMETHEUS (now titled ALIEN: COVENANT) and I’m sure that he and Fox both don’t want that and Neill’s movie to come out right next to each other, because they’re kind of two different worlds, with ALIENS taking place thousands of years later, which is how they explained it all to me, but at the same time, they want to give them a similar feel. I know they’re putting the brakes on Neill’s movie just for a little while, but I really think that it would be embarrassing to Ridley and Fox and Sigourney if they just didn’t make the movie.”

While a studio is a soulless entity that could care less about feelings, it does love its money, and the concept Biehn is sharing sounds like they’ll be swimming in the Benjamins. I think it’s important for Scott to be focused on the producing end, especially if there’s to be a similar feel. I can’t see anyone having the time and energy to both make their own film and produce one on the side. The indefinite delay is the right move here. Still, let’s hope that Blomkamp’s sequel doesn’t get lost in space.

  • RidleyScott

That’s right. Ignore those rotten, vile 3rd and 4th entries.

    • huntermc

They can retcon them right out of existence as far as I’m concerned. RIpley can wake up from hyper sleep and just say “Newt! Hicks! You’re still alive! I had the strangest dreams….” and just leave it at that.

      • Daniel Anderson

        That would be fun.

      • M. Knepper

If you read the novelization of Alien 3, it starts out with Ripley having a nightmare or at least alluding to one. The events of Alien 3 could have all been a nightmare, especially with the way the film starts (they’re all asleep).

  • sliceanddice

Could be like nightmare asylum. somebody just make that movie.

  • Golic

long live Alien 3, and FUCK BlomKamp’s big budget fan-fic.

    • RidleyScott

Oh it’s coming, get ready for a RETCON.

      • Golic

a lazy, pointless retcon fan fiction. oh boy. It won’t matter; Alien 3 will still be the only real sequel to Aliens, and that annoying brat and one dimensional soldier will still be dead. 🙂

        • RidleyScott

You can keep your movie about serial killers and rapists with awful mo-motion effects.

    • Charlton

Every sequel is a fan fic if by people other than the original creators.

    • diapers

Lol! Tell us how you really feel, mister crabby pants.

  • J Jett

i’m confused. so IS there going to be a Blomkamp ALIEN movie or not?

    • Daniel Anderson

Yes. From the first announcement Blom was pretty open that it won’t happen until ~2 Prometheus sequels. So it going on hiatus is no surprise, but for whatever reason Bloody-disgusting is treating it as if its a surprise which has created some confusion.

      • RidleyScott

No, Blomkamp said nothing of the sort from the first announcement or at all. However, RIDLEY SCOTT’s own words were that P2 would come out first, THEN this.

      • Dirty Frank

Totally incorrect. Blomkamp was into production before Scott pulled the rug out from under him. Don’t just randomly make stuff up.

        • Daniel Anderson

Should take a look at some older articles. Namely the ones where he is collaborating with Scott and making sure his work doesn’t bump with Prometheus. You know Fox’s other alien movie that they don’t want to cannibalize which was in the works longer than Blomkamps successor.

          • Dirty Frank

You should look at the even older ones where his film was first into production. Scott ramped up production on his as a response and that’s when all the concessions, and ultimately the canning of Aliens 2, came down the pipe.

          • white vader

And then there’s “production”. Even Prometheus 2 isn’t in production, only pre. And even in terms of pre-production, anyone in the industry knows that pitching with concepts all paid for by the director (not the studio) is standard practice these days and a bit of concept art posted online and a Blomkamp-esque (or more accurately Broadmore-esque) embellished pulse rifle does in no way mean there’s even a pre-production props department. This practice is so common now it’s known as “pre-pre”.

  • Eizzy IceBorne

I don`t think that this will be a good idea. Newt was killed in Alien³ and the audience got used to it. It is also quite a shock, if you watch the movies in a row. I also haven`t seen any reintroduction that would make sense.

PS: I always felt the majority of the fans prefers the DC, not the other way round. I also enjoy the DC more than the theatrical version.

  • wehoaks

A huge sign Scott is losing it: putting an Alien movie with SIGOURNEY on hold.

    • Halloween_Vic

  • Halloween_Vic

Lets thank Scott, cause now he possibly ruined the chances for Sigourney to return due to being a jealous asshole who put BlomKamps Alien on hold. Either way yeaaaa whooooo!! Go Newt!!! It makes sense to follow her now due to Sigourney getting older and older but if we would have gotten Blomkamps ALIEN first this could possibly have been avoided at least for the first sequel have Sigourney go and do her thing and then for the next sequel pick up with Newt!

  • suffering

Newt is dead ,we know that Hykes survived when you play colonial marines but for Newt there is no chance….. or they will clone her

  • ixlplk

It sounds like another Terminator Genisys, and since THAT movie bombed I’m not as excited about Michael Biehn’s future employment as he seems to be.

  • GunsOfNavarone

If this is going ahead, it HAS to be the hypersleep nightmare story where 3 and 4 didn’t exist outside of cryosleep. If not, it means he’s going to clone Newt which is a horrible fucking idea as it was in Resurrection to clone Ripley.

    • M. Knepper

From what I gather, it ignores Alien 3 altogether. So this would be a new Alien 3, not tied to the events of Fincher’s Alien in any way.

      • GunsOfNavarone

I think that’s kind of a shame, Alien Resurrection I could happily live without but I am one of the few who actually liked Alien 3. I’d much prefer he played it out as a nightmare but we’ll have to see if it even goes ahead.

        • James

I like alien 3 but I’m fine with them ignoring it for this one. Not like we lose the movie in the process.

          • GunsOfNavarone

It all depends… I mean as many problems as the Alien 3 production had, we’re talking about 2 very different directors, Fincher and Blomkamp. So if Blomkamp puts out a good movie, excellent, but if it’s along the lines of his last 2 and Alien 3 is better then I’d rather keep 3 canon.

          • James

I didn’t mind his last two. District 9 was his best but I liked Elysium and Chappie. He seems to be taking the idea of a new alien film very seriously and that has me excited because he does have skill. I met Michael Biehn last weekend and he seems pretty convinced that Neil is going to end up getting to make his movie.

          • GunsOfNavarone

I loved District 9 and I liked Elysium but I thought Chappie was awful. I think Blomkamp has skill, but it’s evident he needs a little assistance. His conceptual drawings for alien were very cool, but I remember reading all the hype surrounding Chappie and how ‘nothing like it had been done before’. It was a very poor man’s Short Circuit crossed with RoboCop and paled in comparison to both. So I just hope that with Alien, we don’t get something which is again hyped and doesn’t deliver. 1 excellent movie isn’t really enough to convince me of his ability. I like Biehn, so I’m envious you met him, he seems like a nice guy.

          • James

I agree that Chappie was nothing new at all. But it was well done and it is clear Neil has talent. I think with a movie like alien he’d have a lot of assistance and would be the right man to be running the show.

  • Jago Hara-Kiri

“It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that’s what the bottom line is now: money”

SAD BUT TRUE …… that’s really sad man ….. GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER MAN

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

I think the people who are saying “Newt is dead” and the only way she can come back is if she’s cloned are missing the point (big time). She’s only dead in Alien 3. Same with Hicks. If this is a sequel that either happens before 3 or ignores it all-together, both are obviously still alive and Bishop can be restored as well which would also bring back Lance Henriksen.

    • marklola12 .

errm she died in cryo this was stated in alien 3
they were in cryo from aliens upto alien 3 hence NOPE they can not make a decent story about newt simply because there was no time inbetween where she was out of cryo
unless they are going with the horrid idea where we see her back as a child before ripley found her
if that’s the case I wont watch it and I hope it bombs….which I think will happen either way

      • M. Knepper

Pretty sure they’re just going to ignore Alien 3, is what he meant by that. So instead of waking up to crashing of Fury and Alien 3 happens, they’d ALL wake up ALIVE into a different sequel.

That’s what he means by ignoring Alien 3.

        • Infinity

LOL She would have to wake up as a child first then have some years pass then continue the story.

So really this is would have to be an alternate universe kind of story.

      • The Polish Hammer

I take it you didn’t read the part that said Newt would be “around twenty-seven years old” in the new sequel? Or were you thinking they’ll go back to her as a 27-year-old child?

This is Blomkamp going “Fuck Alien 3, it doesn’t exist”. Plain and simple.

      • Mike

3 and 4 suck. Ignore them. Problem solved.

  • PsychoMantis18

The more you post, the more credibility you loose.

Do you not know what the word ‘genius’ means or do you just have incredibly low standards for its usage?

Also, how does a horror fan like the most anti-horror aspect of the whole franchise?

  • Dev

I’m not a fan of retconning, and this plot just sounds like a fanboy going off the rails, not especially something I would like to see. I expect it will be better than Alien vs Predator, though, but then that’s not saying much.

  • Brodequin

Sounds like melodramatic romantic soap opera…

    • James Allard

      This. Yes.

  • When I saw the draft which was of 7159 dollars, I accept that my friend’s brother was like really generating cash in his spare time with his computer. . His aunts neighbor has done this for only 10 months and by now repaid the loan on their home and bought a new Car .This is what they are donig …

I personally don’t see this happening at all. With Alien: Covenant(which I’m excited for) taking center stage and pretty much being a soft reboot of Prometheus and the supposed first in a new trilogy- I don’t see this happening until after Ridley’s new trilogy and by then it’ll be what? 2021? And who’s to say Ridley wouldn’t want to continue past said trilogy with more “Covenant” sequels?

Fox doing Neil’s Alien 5(or 3 depending on how you see it) in the middle of Ridley’s Trilogy doesn’t seem like a move they’d make as they would probably fear the general public wouldn’t be able to dissociate the two sets of films from one another.

And if they do wait until the Covenant trilogy is finished then will Sigourney even still be interested by then? So many risks, I’m just going to go with it not happening and just focus on Covenant. Take it one step at a time.

  • Mike

I’d rather see this than Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel.

” There is no new thing under the sun” The film entertainment world is in panic, they just can’t come up with anything original that’s going to bring the masses into the theater….so this is what you get
