‘Dying Light: The Following’ Trailer Hunts for a Cure
A couple of months is all that stands between us and a colossal story expansion for Techland’s massively popular open-world horror game Dying Light. An expansive new environment, dune buggies, epic loot, evil cultists and a new questline are all coming on Feb 9 with the arrival of The Following, but that’s not the only content we’ll be getting in the coming months.
Techland is pairing this new DLC with a substantial update that will bring with it an array of new features and technical improvements, as well as some bonus water-themed goodies courtesy of the #DrinkForDLC campaign from earlier this year.
The Following will be unlocked automatically for owners of the season pass. Otherwise you can get it for $19.99. The update will be free for all, and if you’ve waited this long to get your copy of Dying Light, everything I mentioned comes bundled with the recently announced Enhanced Edition.
Here’s a full breakdown of what’s changing in the free update:
Nightmare difficulty setting
Legend system
Bounties system
New Parkour moves
New enemy attacks and behaviours
Enhanced facial expressions
New NPC models
Improved human enemy AI
Improved volatile AI
Greater firearm variety
HUD and video filter customisations
Audio upgrades
Gameplay quality improvements
Console performance upgrades
Overall game look and feel improvements

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
