Stephen King’s ‘Cell’: Samuel L. Jackson, John Cusack, and Isabelle Fuhrman (Images)

Check out two more shots from the adaptation of Stephen King’s Cell, which stars American History X and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For‘s Stacy Keach, Orphan‘s Isabelle Fuhrman, The Raven‘s John Cusack, and RoboCop and Oldboy‘s Samuel L. Jackson.

Fuhrman plays a teenage neighbor of Cusack’s Clay Riddell character who joins him and Jackson’s Tom McCourt character on their journey to safety after a mysterious pulse spreads like a virus through the human population.

Keach (“Nebraska”) will play the headmaster of a prep school where the survivors stop along their way, Variety previously reported.

When a powerful signal is broadcast across mobile networks worldwide, cell phone users’ minds are instantly and dangerously re-programmed. Heading north through New England in search of his wife and son, Clay Riddell (Cusack) is joined by a group of survivors hoping to fend off the bloodthirsty and hyper-connected “phoners.”

Paranormal Activity 2‘s Tod “Kip” Williams directs.

The screenplay for Cell was written by Stephen King, with revisions by Adam Alleca.

John Cusack is quickly becoming a “Stay Away” post for movies he’s in.

    • Loved him until Twitter showed me his true self. Dude is a bit of a nutcase.

      • Scott Baiowulfgang Amadeus

You’ve gotta at least respect him for the fact that when Danny Trejo was asked if there’s one actor he’s worked with he’d never want to get in a fight with, who would it be. He answered John Cusack. Even Machete won’t fuck with that nutcase!

        • James Allard

That is possibly the scariest thing I have ever read… what if… Cusack is in a truly horrible movie… worse that anything the German Boll-weevil ever put out (right? I know…) and he gets a critic alone in an elevator…
… actually, that is a movie I would want to see.
          Dear Mr. Cusack,
we are going to put you in close quarters with someone you don’t like and has ravaged your career….

        • Tigernan Quinn

Then why is he always in perpetually terrible shape?

          • Free gratis

I think its a rare martial-arts related condition called seagalitis.

  • Creepshow

Where’s my 2 fuckin dollars JOHN!!?

    • Hank_Scorpio

The main weiner man has it

    • J Jett

oh my god i love that movie!! MY 2 DOLLARS!!

  • Scott Baiowulfgang Amadeus

Now that they pulled Cell from the FrightFest line up, I wonder when it will be released. I worked on this movie and it filmed over two years ago now. Put it out already!

    • Free gratis

Can’t wait for the companion movie, Tablet.

  • DimestoreSaint

One of Stephen King’s worst novels, IMO. I’ll probably end up still seeing the movie. I’ll always like Cusack because of 1408.

    • macguffin54

I disagree. I actually liked it. Not his best, but far from his worst. A fun read.

    • Miguel Camacho

i only finished this book because i had to know if it would AT LEAST have a good ending.

      spoiler: it didnt.

  • LN

I loved the novel when I read it a few years ago. I’ve been waiting for this movie what seems like forever. How long has it been sitting on the shelf?

  • Man. I remember way back when Eli Roth was slated to do this movie. Can’t believe something is finally coming from it

  • Hank_Scorpio

Does Samuel L. Jackson have to be in every single movie ever now?

    • 1EyeJack

      …As well as Morgan Freeman?

      • CanadianKyosa

        At least Morgan can act.

    • LN

He must be either broke or can’t stand staying home with his wife. I used to like him but so many of his movies lately are absolute dreck.

  • J Jett

this movie has been completed for like 3 years now. is it EVER going to be released?

  • Khy

By the time this release we won’t even be using cell phones any more.

    • J Jett

Khy, i feel like this movie’s technology is already passe. lol.

      • Khy

The latest this adaptation should’ve been made and released was 2009. Now it all just feels super dated.

        • AlanMorlock

It was actually made about 2 or 3years ago and has been sitting on the shelf .

    • Free gratis

True dat. All the cell phones in it are actually flip phones.

    • Sparky

Maybe they’d better add a prologue in which everyone feels ‘compelled’ to answer a ringing phone (as if speaker phone and message won’t work).

  • MammaJuneBug

John Cusack ruins movies… Like the guy John Boy from IT.. Bluchhh

    • Mackey

Yep. Cusack has been phoning it in for years (no pun intended).

    • Free gratis

Hey, John Boy didn’t ruin Wonder Boys. He just made it douchier.

  • Tigernan Quinn

This idea seemed a lot more plausible back when cell phones were used to make phone calls. Now unless the signal was social media related, nobody would get it.

    • Brodequin

I’m still using old school cell phone to make calls. Social media? No, thanks. Probably i’m getting too old for this shit hehe…

  • Brandon MisterJuicy Alexander

this was a really fun book to read.

  • dgrayson007

One of my favorite King stories.

  • FrankFontaine108

I wonder if Jackson’s character will be gay as he is in the novel.

  • Df

My interest would be higher if it didn’t have cusak in it. He isn’t terrible but he is boring to watch, and all he does is play himself. It would be different if himself was interesting like say gene Hackman but he isnt. And while I like Jackson I’m getting tired of him for similar reasons. I’m getting Samuel Jackson fatigue.

  • khail19

What is Jessica Jones doing in this movie? Oh. It’s Alice.

  • Johnathan Jingley Jones

Hope the girl dies as she does in the novel… Cheers

  • Christopher Pelton

“and RoboCop and Oldboy‘s Samuel L. Jackson.” Really? Those were the only points of reference you could come up with for Samuel L Jackson? Two god awful remakes. Interesting.

    • Brodequin

Spike Lee’s Oldboy is remake of a remake. I like all three.

  • Peter Johnson

This was such a badass book, and I’m digging this cast. When is this coming out?

    • Sparky

There are rumors of an October release for the U.S. On IMDB different countries such as Australia are listed (with different distributors) as getting blu ray or dvd releases, which doesn’t bode well for theatrical release.

      • Peter Johnson

I saw that coming. I haven’t seen a King movie in theaters for awhile

  • Miguel Camacho

i absolutely loathed this book. for once i actually hope a movie changes a lot of stuff up.
