‘Demons’ 3-D Remake to Reunite Italian Legends?!

DEMONS 1985

One of my all-time favorite horror films is the nasty, gross and wild Italian Demons.

The film was release in the height of awesome 80’s horror, and was directed by the great Lamberto Bava from a screenplay co-written by Dario Argento, who also produced. The dream team was completed by special effects legend Sergio Stivaletti, also known for his work on Opera and Cemetery Man.

In the film, a group of people are trapped in a large movie theater in West Berlin that is infected by ravenous demons who proceed to kill and posses the humans one-by-one, thereby multiplying their numbers.

A sequel was quickly released just a year later.

Now, 30 years after the iconic films were released, there’s behind-the-scenes chatter of reunion that would result in a 3-D remake of the film.

“We all wish Italian horror could return again but we know how unlikely that is,” Stivaletti told DUHD, while also dropping this bomb. “We have been speaking about a new Demons movie for a short time now.

“Dario, Lamberto and myself – maybe a 3D version of Demons, a remake that features the old crew”.

Stivaletti speaks to the fanbase that he’s sure exists: “We go to conventions across the world and people remember our work. So there is an audience out there for a new Demons movie – we are all sure of it.”

Obviously, there’s just talk amongst long-time friends, but that’s where it all begins. And I’m not sure a low-budget remake would work with today’s special effects unless of course Stivaletti can pull off a miracle. The first two films are on a level so high that nobody can touch them, but if the original visionaries want to take a crack at it, I’m not going to stand in their way…
