‘The Hum: Abductions’ Footage Plays Hide and Seek

Published

on

In developer Totwise Studios’ upcoming sci-fi horror game The Hum: Abductions, an army of pint-sized extraterrestrials descend from the night sky to make sure we’ve turned off our televisions. There’s definitely another reason for their surprise visit, and it’s going to suck when we discover what that reason is, but I’ll admit it did warm the cockles of my heart — a heart they’ll probably want to dissect — when I saw that wee grey man waste no time in switching off the TV.

I see that small gesture as a sign that they care about conserving energy, and by extension, the planet. So when we inevitably lose the war and they stand victorious atop a mountain of charred remains that was once the human race, we can all take some comfort in knowing our home is in good, albeit sickly and spidery, hands.

This new footage was recorded on the HTC Vive, but Totwise has also confirmed it will support for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and OSVR (Razer’s) virtual reality headsets. That’s fantastic news when so many other VR horror games are being designed specifically for a certain headset, like Edge of Nowhere (Oculus) or The Brookhaven Experiment (Vive).

The Hum: Abductions releases later this year on PC, Mac and PS4.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
