‘What We Do in the Shadows’ is Getting a Television Spin-off!

Spoof films haven’t been funny since Scary Movie, mostly because they focus too much on pop culture. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s hysterical What We Do in the Shadows plays a lot of inside baseball, which is why it’s a home run, especially for horror fans.

The mockumentary follows a documentary team filming the lives of a group of vampires for a few months. The pic also tackles werewolves, which is the focus on the in-development sequel, We’re Wolves. But this universe is growing even further, thanks in part to a newly revealed television spin-off.

Empire breaks the news on “Paranormal Event Response Unit”, a new television series that will focus on the original film’s easily-manipulable police officers, Mike and Karen. The series will follow the duo as they try to keep Wellington safe from spooky beasties. Six 30-minute episodes will be hitting New Zealand channel, TVNZ 2, they confirmed this week.

This is exciting because Waititi and Clement truly understand and love the genre, and are surely going to deliver even more laughs. I can’t wait to see what other monsters they throw loving jabs at.
