Mondo’s ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Poster Will Blow Your Mind

Published

on

This past weekend, the Alamo Drafthouse’s Austin, Texas location played host to an all-day marathon of the entire Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and for the event, Mondo teamed up with artist Matt Ryan for a limited edition poster paying tribute to the original classic. That art, well, it’s a visual feast of nightmarish awesomeness.

The artist provided some insight over on his blog, The Works of Matt Ryan:

I personally wanted to capture the suburban quiet calm night. The clean and oh-so-perfect little white-picket fenced street. So quiet you could hear a pin drop but in no way could you hear the approaching menace of an immortal dream stalker demon/ex-child killer who preys on you at your most vulnerable…while you sleep.

The visual to any fans of the film might be familiar. It was inspired by Tina’s nightmare scene in which Freddy’s arms grow and stretch and reach out beyond human means. This is really the first time you really learn of Freddy’s ability to bend his dream world to do whatever he wants. That’s always a terrifying thought – that someone/something evil has that much control over your dreams…

I wanted Freddy to actually be interacting with the landscape..breaking the fourth wall to a degree. Freddy’s arms reaching and stretching and coiling around the houses on Elm St. In and out of bedroom windows like a snake. Both houses on the left and right being Tina and Glen’s houses specifically.

I wanted people to look at this poster and be transported there.

The 36″ x 24″ print had a regular edition of 250 and a “retro variant edition” of just 150. Check out both prints below, and be sure to check Mondo’s website for any that still remain after this past weekend’s event; if they didn’t sell out, that’s where you’ll find them!

Dead Mail SXSW Dead Mail interview

One of the genre films we’re looking forward to checking out at SXSW this year is Dead Mail, written and directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy and premiering on March 9.

Meagan Navarro will be reviewing Dead Mail for Bloody Disgusting as part of her SXSW coverage, and she writes in her preview for the upcoming fest: “Dead Mail leans heavily into the ’80s analog aesthetic, delivering a unique crime thriller unafraid to get offbeat with its dark narrative. Expect its characters to be as atypical as Dead Mail‘s sense of style.”

In the SXSW 2024 horror film…

“On a desolate, Midwestern county road, a bound man crawls towards a remote postal box, managing to slide a blood-stained plea-for-help message into the slot before a panicking figure closes in behind him. The note makes its way to the county post office and onto the desk of Jasper, a seasoned and skilled “dead letter” investigator, responsible for investigating lost mail and returning it to its sender. As he investigates further, Jasper meets Trent, a strange yet unassuming man who has taken up residence at the men’s home where Jasper lives.

“When Trent unexpectedly shows up at Jasper’s office, it becomes clear he has a vested interest in the note, and will stop at nothing to retrieve it…”

Sterling Macer, Jr., John Fleck, Susan Priver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman star in Dead Mail. Preview the film with an exclusive image gallery below.
