Both shows are relentlessly brutal. But which has racked up a higher body count?
AMC and HBO have been bringing the blood and guts with “The Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones,” both shows often killing off major characters and just generally spilling a good deal of the red stuff onto the small screen. But how do they stack up when compared side-by-side? Which show has dispatched more major characters? One patient fan took it upon himself to find out.
And we benefit from his hard work.
Reddit user Nachorykaart is the madman (or woman?) behind this fun infographic, which compares main character deaths, side character deaths, background character deaths, and non-human character deaths between the first five seasons of “The Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones” – the former is halfway through its seventh season while the latter has only aired six seasons, so it wouldn’t be fair to compare everything we’ve seen so far from each show.
In the total character deaths department, “The Walking Dead” is in the lead with 1,216, with “Game of Thrones” trailing behind with 704. Given how many zombies are killed every single week on AMC’s series, that was kind of a given. In all other categories, however, “Game of Thrones” is the winner, killing off more main, side, and background characters in seasons one through five.
