Robert Englund Reveals Favorite Freddy Krueger Kill

Freddy Krueger has claimed over 40 victims. But which one is his favorite?

Horror icon Robert Englund was on hand at this weekend’s Monsterpalooza convention in Los Angeles, and he took part in a special Q&A panel on Sunday afternoon to chat with fans about all things Nightmare on Elm Street. In addition to once again plugging Bone Tomahawk, a recent fave of his, Englund also revealed his #1 favorite kill from the Elm Street franchise.

My personal favorite is from Dream Master – it’s just impossible to top Freddy turning Debbie into a roach. Englund’s favorite, however, is from Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare

Englund explained:

It’s such a Cronenberg head explosion. The guys loved doing that. But yeah, what I love is that it’s a real politically incorrect sequence, ya know. And I hate the fact… I know many, I don’t even know what the politically correct term is anymore… I don’t think it’s disabled anymore – special needs actors. Gosh, I work with actors that are in wheelchairs or have problems with their sight, and they don’t just want to play goody goody people all the time. They don’t just have to be the good guy. Or the nice guy. Or the saint. Or the martyr. They want to be bad guys and villains as well. And I love the political incorrectness of that. Freddy’s an equal opportunity serial killer. He doesn’t care if you’ve got a hearing aid. He’ll get ya. That’s my favorite Freddy kill. Because of all the ramifications for it.

You can watch the Monsterpalooza panel below.

  • My favorite is the cockroach death too!

    • Grimphantom

      Same here!

    • Russell Reball

That collapsing pick up truck crash was amazing fx

  • What are the rules of the dreaming realm (if you had to pick). Is it technically the dreamers dream (the one sleeping) or are you in Freddy’s dream/world? Who is in control? I feel half the time they say it’s the person sleeping and they imagine themselves as anything they want, but other times Freddy says it’s his dream and crushes them?!

  • art123guy

Woulda been better if his head exploded blood and brains instead of confetti.

  • Andrew

My fave kill will always be Tina in the original. So good. And still scary to this day

  • SpacemanSpliffz

    “I AM THE WIZARD MASTER!!!!!!!!”

    fuck you kid, you’re dead.

    best kill ever

  • Antisocial_ism

I still say “What a rush” in a Freddy voice, for no reason, to this day.

  • Vladimir Chertok

i said wheres the bourbon bitch !!!!

  • WOLF

    Tina for sure.
Freddy’s Dead was by far the worst. Everything including the kills were too goofy.

    • oh_riginal

      Agree, Tina all the way.

  • Otterlee

That is a thing of beauty.

  • J Jett

that hearing aid kill was ok. my faves (and the ones that still to this day stand out in my mind) are
-the “WELCOME TO THE PRIME TIME, BITCH” head through the tv kill from part 3

-the syringes/blades in the arms kill from from part 3
-Johnny Depp being dragged down into the bed (and the subsequent blood explosion).

  • J Jett

Necro, your #2 and #4 picks were my faves too! 🙂

  • iHeartJames

Its funny cuz I don’t hate Freddy’s Dead lol well back then I did but now I just view it as a fun comedy and its one of those movies that are watchable if you haven’t seen it in alot of years

    • KennyThaKilla

That’s how I look at it. A lot of people say that the series went downhill after part 3, but for me they all have a special place and I’d give anything to see another one of those “shitty” sequels with Robert instead of what passes for a slasher nowadays.

  • AdamX

Freddy, Jason, Chucky and Leatherface have all attack wheelchair bound people…Horror Cares!

  • A terrible movie, but man, that scene is just a-fucking-mazing!!

  • KennyThaKilla

Not my fave, but a great kill because some people hate the screeching noise Freddy makes with his glove, so the chalkboard was genius.

Favorite line from Freddy’s Dead: “Yeah well the map says we’re fucked!”

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

Heard him talk about this in Chicago in 2014 during Flashback in full Freddy garb. Surreal is an overused term these days, but that’s exactly what it was.

  • Okay that’s what I thought, but wasn’t 100%! That the dreamer is technically in control and Freddy comes to you and warps said dream. But the dreamer still has control if they are smart enough to realize and utilize said ‘power’.

  • Prince Of Darkness

The series went downhill after part 1. Tina’s death in part 1 was brutal and primal. She gets slashed and then tossed about the room like a ragdoll. After the gay camp fest that was part 2, the kills were all about how creative the make up artists could get followed by a cornball comment from Krueger such as “Welcome to prime time bitch!” It seems to me that in horror, the reward of a bigger sequel budget is more often than not the kiss of death. A girl turned into a giant cockroach may frighten a child, but a simple 10 second image of Tina in a body bag with snakes at her feet can haunt an adult.

    • J Jett

still being a cunt. oh Princess. at least your lover “Michael Hill” (who is probably your secondary/fake account) upvoted your comment. feel better now that you as Michael Hill made it seem like anyone would agree w/ you dickish attitude? LOL.

      • Prince Of Darkness

LOL – Uh oh, looks like J Jett got his period again. It’s going to be a rough five days people.

  • Chris Genth

    What a rush!

  • Michael Hill

all these films suck ass and Robert Englund is an over rated hack.

    • KennyThaKilla

      Troll detected.

      • J Jett

Kenny exactly! Mikey Hill is a really miserable, closeted/self hating (hence his unhappiness) douchebag.

    • J Jett

so you’re jealous about sucking ass? hungry are you? LOL. fear not, you DO suck ass…and lots of it.

  • Come on Robert!! I’ve seen nothing but CONSTANT mentions of your Freddy days even going as far to get back in the makeup. GET BACK ON THAT SCREEN!!! At LEAST one more time. This generation needs to know who the REAL Freddy is. No one can hold a torch to you. If they could, it would have to be an insanely dark take on the series with a very talented actor. I would love to see Robert come back though with a darker twist on Freddy, kind of like in New Nightmare but darker. New Nightmare will forever hold a place in my heart. I remember being a kid when the trailer came on TV and would get beyond excited. I turn 30 in a couple of months so the Freddy movies were my entire childhood. So Robert, GET YOUR ASS BACK ON THAT SCREEN AND GIVE FREDDY THE FINAL PERFORMANCE HE AND THE FANS DESERVE.
