Ben Wheatley Compares Upcoming ‘Freakshift’ to a ’50s Monster Movie

Can you love a movie that hasn’t even been filmed?

Filming is set to begin in August on Kill List director Ben Wheatley’s action-thriller Freakshift, which will star Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander and center on a band of misfit cops who hunt down and kill nocturnal underground monsters. Speaking with Collider, Wheatley just provided a bit more insight into his vision, comparing his latest to a B-movie from the 1950s!

Wheatley told the site:

It’s monsters, shotguns, trucks, fighting at night, and it’s in the future, things coming out like crabs. Stuff with claws. That’s the elevator pitch. And August is when we shoot it. It will be dynamic and exciting the same way that Free Fire is. But it won’t be sadistic. But it will be fun. It’s a kind of a ’50s B-Movie done through the prism of Hill Street Blues and Doom.

Vikander is the lead female protagonist, while Hammer plays her love interest.

Wheatley wrote the script with Amy Jump, and Wheatley’s longtime producer Andrew Starke produces via their Rook Films banner.
