Actress Brittany Allen has secured a supporting role in Orion Pictures horror film, formally titled Descendant, from director Nicholas McCarthy, Deadline reports. Allen stars in the excellent indie film, What Keeps You Alive (above), which premieres at the forthcoming SXSW, and also appeared in Lionsgate’s Saw franchise sequel, Jigsaw, as well as both It Stains the Sands Red and Extraterrestrial (pictured below).
Pulling from The Omen and Bad Seed, the feature tells the story of a young mother who, concerned about her 8-year-old son’s disturbing behavior, thinks something supernatural may be affecting him.
Screenwriter Jeff Buhler penned The Midnight Meat Train and Insanitarium, and is working on remakes of Pet Sematary and Jacob’s Ladder.
Taylor Schilling (“Orange is the New Black”) will topline the film being produced by Tripp Vinson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), which is expected to begin in March in Toronto. Daniel Bekerman, Lisa Zambri, Nick Spicer and Jeff Buhler will serve as exec producers.
Last month, Orion made its first acquisition with Anna and the Apocalypse.
