[E3 2018] ‘Fallout 76’ Gameplay Trailer, Collector’s Edition Revealed and More!
Tonight Bethesda have spilled the beans on Fallout 76, revealing more info on the game, as well as its release date. Mark November 14 on your calendars, as that’s when we’ll be returning to the wasteland. Prior to the game’s launch, Bethesda will hold a B.E.T.A. (Break-It Early Test Application) test. No date for the beta has been announced, but in order to participate, you have to preorder the game itself.
Speaking of preordering, Bethesda also revealed the collector’s edition of the game, dubbed the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition. This special edition includes a wearable T-51b helmet, glow-in-the-dark terrain map, 24 figurines, a canvas West Tek duffel bag to carry the helmet, in-game items and a “Tricentennial Edition Steelbook”.
In addition to all of that, Bethesda also gave us more info on the game. For one, the game will be open world online multiplayer, and as Todd Howard described it, a “softcore survival” genre (meaning you won’t have the fear of losing all of your stuff if you die). While you can play solo, you can also assemble a team. In it, you can build wherever you want and move your structures wherever you want. The new construction mode is called the Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform – or C.A.M.P.
The story for the game involves Vault 76, which is located in West Virginia; it’s one of the very first vaults to open and was built to celebrate America’s tercentenary. You are one of the very special few selected to be an occupant, and spend 25 years underground waiting for Reclamation Day: the day the vault opens. Fallout 76 will have 16 times the detail of previous games in the series, and the game’s creatures take inspiration from the state’s folklore.
And being that it’s Fallout, the nuclear presence is a given. “We thought, why don’t we put multiple nuclear missile sites on the map,” says Howard, “and then let all of you do whatever you want with them.” Bethesda’s Twitter account elaborated on the feature, saying “Go it alone or with fellow survivors to unlock access to the ultimate weapon – Nuclear Missiles. Are you going to protect or unleash the power of the atom? We’re interested to see who or what survives the aftermath.”
While I can’t say that I’m entirely on board with the direction Bethesda’s going with this new Fallout game being online, you can’t deny that this all sounds pretty cool.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
