Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror) has just dropped out of playing the lead role of “Mia” in Ghost House/Mandate Pictures remake of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead.
Jeff Sneider of Variety attributes it to “scheduling issues“. While it’s nice to have our scoop confirmed that she was indeed hired for the role – her departure now leads a big void. After all, she’s playing the hero – the remake’s equivalent of “Ash”.
In this version, the story centers on five friends (David, Natalie, Eric, Olivia, and Mia) holed up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead with a demonic force unleashed possessing each until only one is left to fight for survival. As we also exclusively reported, there is a drug subplot.
I’ve read the script, and “Mia” is a good, meaty, role for a young actress. It’s not as one-note and comic as the character of “Ash”, but it’s got lots of cool layers and should be very physically demanding.
With that in mind, who do you think should replace her?
Fede Alvarez directs the redo of Sam Raimi’s cult classic 1981 The Evil Dead from his own screenplay co-written with Rodo Sayagues. Revisions were done by Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody. It’s scheduled for release on April 12th, 2013. READ MORE

You may recall Hoax Hunters from the back pages of Hack/Slash this past year, but now it’s spun off into it’s own series. Written by Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley (yes, Tim Seeley’s brother), with J.M. Ringuet on art duties, Hoax Hunters is a zany cross somewhere between The X-Files and B.P.R.D.. The story follows a crew of hunters who travel across the globe investigating paranormal folklore and urban myths, mixing together all sorts of sci-fi goodies, with some sardonic jabs at reality TV. Hoax Hunters #0 is due out in March and below you can check out the 5-page preview. Read on for the skinny…

Now on various VOD platforms is Tribeca Films’ Don’t Go in the Woods, which will begin a limited theatrical run in New York City tomorrow (director Vincent D’Onofrio will be introducing the film at the 9:30pm screening in NYC (Cinema Village) and doing a Q&A after). Gearing up for the release, we’ve now landed the two very NSFW stills to go along with the official trailer and one sheet. They’re INSANELY gory!
“ ‘Don’t Go in the Woods’ is sound advice, especially when there’s a killer on the loose. First-time director Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) explores love, greed and ruthlessness in this twisted musical/horror hybrid, telling the story of a young band who heads to the woods to get away from their everyday lives in order to focus on writing new songs. Hoping to walk away from the trip with new tunes that will score them their big break, they instead find themselves in the middle of a nightmare beyond comprehension.” READ MORE
Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned that Roel Reiné, who has directed a slew of direct-to-disc titles including The Marine 2, The Lost Tribe, The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption, Death Race 2 and Death Race: Inferno, is getting behind the camera for Dead In Tombstone.
Lensing this March in Bucharest, Romania, the director has made a deal with the Devil to make yet another title for Universal Pictures. No word on if there is a theatrical plan for this sucker.
Penned by Shane Kuhn and Brendan Cowles, with revisions by Michael Weiss, we’re told the film follows the protagonist Guerrero Hernandez, the leader of the Blackwater Gang of outlaws. Hernandez frees his half-brother Red from a prison (in the hopes of robbing the entire town), only to be shot in the back. Hernandez makes a deal with the Devil to rise from the grave for revenge. (I hope he comes out of a cake like in House 2.)
It sounds like The Crow only with a piece of sh*t protag. There’s nothing worse than hating the lead character; how can you possibly root for this guy? READ MORE
Gregori J. Martin (The Intruders, Raven) is getting behind the camera for Unhallowed, which shoots February in Los Angeles and New York.
Bloody Disgusting exclusively learned that Dee Wallace (Cujo, The Howling, Critters, ET) stars alongside Kristos Andrews, Gabrielle Stone and Miriam Colon (who is still in talks).
Hoping to capitalize on the success of The Devil Inside, Martin’s latest is in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. It follows a family who loses their son and seeks guidance from a spiritual healer of whom many believe to be the reincarnation of Luke (from the Bible). Supernatural forces take over. Chaos ensues. Opening January 27, 2012 from Open Road is director Joe Carnahan’s (A-Team) The Grey, a widely praised thriller that stars Liam Neeson (Unknown, After.Life), Dallas Roberts (Joshua, The Factory), James Badge Dale (The Departed), Dermot Mulroney (Zodiac), Frank Grillo (My Soul to Take, Mother’s Day), Nonso Anozie (RocknRolla), and Joe Anderson.
Originally pushing for Oscar glory, various critics have already been raving about the thriller. With Evan Dickson’s review forthcoming, Bloody Disgusting scored a exclusive clip, a tense scene in which Neeson first encounters the pack of wolves.
“In ‘The Grey,’ Liam Neeson leads an unruly group of oil-rig roughnecks when their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling mortal injuries and merciless weather, the survivors have only a few days to escape the icy elements – and a vicious pack of rogue wolves on the hunt – before their time runs out.” READ MORE

It was hard to stay on top of things with the holidays looming over the release of The Devil Inside (review). Thankfully, Evan Dickson was lucky enough to land a last-second interview with director Brent Bell, co-writer Matthew Peterman and producer Morris Paulson to speak about the found footage exorcism flick.
The below chat, which is excerpts from the conversation (the best of, if you will), tackles everything from the film’s budget to the conclusion that has more than a handful of critics and fans up in arms.
And as always, make sure to write your own review to tell all of Bloody what YOU thought! READ MORE
Have you been looking for more games to play on your PlayStation Move? Do you wish you could maim countless monsters with a friend? If the Overkill Extended Cut wasn’t enough to satiate your appetite for all things bloody and brutal, House of the Dead 2 & 3 in HD might be able to soothe your lust for blasting monsters to bits in cheesy, B-horror movie fashion. Sega has just announced that both games will be getting the increasingly popular HD treatment, and that they’ll also be coming exclusively to the PS3.

House of the Dead 3 HD will come out on February 7 on PSN, with its sequel releasing sometime later this spring. According to my calculations, we now have six incredible horror titles coming out in the first quarter of 2012 — AMY and Silent Hill HD Collection this month, House of the Dead II and Resident Evil: Revelations in February, and Silent Hill: Downpour and RE: Operation Raccoon City in March). Seven if you count The Darkness II, which also looks incredible. READ MORE

Ghost House and Mandate Pictures are going BIG with their casting for their forthcoming remake of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, which begins lensing this March in New Zealand.
Bloody Disgusting has learned exclusively that Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror) is in final negotiations to play “Mia” in FilmDistrict’s reboot aiming for release on April 12, 2013.
*Update* Mia is the LEAD, and is the female version of Ashley J. Williams (Ash), once donned by Bruce Campbell in the original trilogy. To reveal more would ruin the movie.
As previously explained, David is a mechanic and is engaged to Natalie. Mia is the friend who is heading to the cabin to detox; Olivia is her best friend/nurse. Eric, presumably, is the kid who unleashes the demons.
After a recent overdose, Mia struggles with her new-found sobriety. She begins acting insane, so it comes as no surprise that nobody believes her crazy claims of coyote dogs and trees attacking her!

Continuing their opposite trend used in promoting Paranormal Activity, Paramount Insurge has released a slew of hi-res new imagery from The Devil Inside that continues to be cryptic. All we know is that there are plenty of exorcisms, and even more screaming.
In theaters January 6, “Her entire life, Isabella Torelli believed her mother brutally murdered three people because she was clinically insane. After being told the murders occurred during an exorcism she sets out to discover the truth. While documenting her experience with a film crew in Italy, she becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms.” READ MORE
Only in horror is the man in a rubber suit revered as a God, which is appropriate considering the enormity of the following scoop.
With a fair spoiler warning to prelude this story, Damon Lindelof’s screenplay for Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, is said to begin when a group of humans discover a map of the universe that leads them to their creators – or “Gods”. Said Gods are the Space Jockeys as eluded to in the corpse seen in Scott’s 1979 Alien.
In Twentieth Century Fox’s Prometheus, arriving in theaters June 8, one of these Space Jockeys is referred to as “The Engineer”. While there are said to be multiple engineers, Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report that Ian Whyte will portray one of them. He will soon be referred to as our “creator” or “God”…
Whyte also worked in costume as the Predator in both Alien vs. Predator films. We’ll hopefully have more soon as there are quite a bit of interesting rumors surrounding this casting. We’ll work on confirming before we report back. READ MORE

Part of Paramount Pictures’ “12 Days of The Devil Inside Christmas” Bloody Disgusting has been supplied with a brutal treated image from Brent Bell’s found footage exorcism flick opening in theaters January 6.
From Paramount Insurge, The Devil Inside begins in 1989 when “emergency responders received a 9-1-1 call from Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) confessing that she had brutally killed three people. 20 years later, her daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) seeks to understand the truth about what happened that night. She travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to determine if her mother is mentally ill or demonically possessed. When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth) to cure her mom using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of four powerful demons possessing Maria. Many have been possessed by one; only one has been possessed by many.”
Bonnie Morgan, Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman (interview), Preston James Hillier, Evan Helmuth, Suzan Crowley, D.T. Carney, Ionut Grama all star. READ MORE

A feature script is in the works taking place in the streets of NYC, after the events of the short.
