Dragonforce Have Officially Gone Commercial

Well, they’re in a TV commercial, that is. Yup, UK power metal group Dragonforce is now hitting the small screen courtesy of Capitol One mobile banking in a new marketing campaign.

In the commercial, which you can watch below, guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman are engaged in a vicious guitar solo battle (which is shot almost exactly like the battle in “Through The Fire And The Flames”). While one guitarist is rocking out, the other whips out his cellphone and checks his banking through the mobile banking app. Oh, and they also happen to be standing on an asteroid as it floats through space next to a blazing star. Is it strange that my only thought was, “I highly doubt the Wi-Fi signal is strong enough for them to access their data plan.”?

Roadrunner Spotlights Their Own Top 10 Guitarists

Roadrunner Records has put out the following list of their Top 10 guitarists on their label. Do I agree with them all? Not really, but any list that includes Mikael Akerfeldt is a winner in my book. Here’s what Roadrunner has put out:
“Since 1980, Roadrunner Records has been the home of some of metal’s most notable and revered axe-grinders. To try and identify the greatest of all-time in our extensive catalog would be an impossible feat, so instead, we’re showcasing just ten of our MANY great guitarists, and only focusing on those central to our US roster, which has been alive and well since 1987.
 
Rather than just show you the riffs that make Dino Cazares, Matt Heafy, Dave Mustaine and more so great, we’ve enlisted DragonForce’s lightning-fast shredder Herman Li as our guitar expert, giving insight into why each guitarist noted is so amazing from a player’s perspective. And in case that’s not enough information, we’ve also got commentary from Mikael Akerfeldt, Jeff Waters, Andreas Kisser and more on their very own ranking as one of Roadrunner’s best.
