Album Review: Ghost ‘Opus Eponymous’

Sweden has, in my eyes, some of the best music acts these days. You’ve got Opeth, In Flames, At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Meshuggah, Pain Of Salvation; the list goes on and on. These bands, and more from the Scandinavian region, are often credited with shaping today’s metal scene. Most of the time, these bands are focused on moving forward, creating the next iconic sound. Ghost has taken the opposite approach and went back in time, forging a Satanic heavy metal album that hearkens back to the 70’s and 80’s NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). Does it work or is it too pretentious for it’s own good? Check after the jump for answer.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH continues their hard rock dominance this fall on a massive tour with Godsmack. “The Oracle 2010” tour is easily one of the most exciting events to come along this year as these two rock titans unite to bring fans a spectacle that they will remember for a lifetime. The history of radio hits between these two bands is astonishing and there are few bands out there right now that can match each group’s intensity and desire to bring their fans the very best each and every night. Expect the unexpected and a remarkable stage show yet reminiscent of Iron Maiden and Tool’s larger than life production.

Five Finger Death Punch To Tour With Godsmack

Five Finger Death Punch is unquestionably one of America’s flagship metal/hard rock artists, which is a statement further validated by the overwhelming success of their “Bad Company” Active Rock Radio campaign. The song has been charting (Top 40) for 15 straight weeks now on the Active Rock charts and continues to gain more momentum each week. It is currently at #2 this week chipping away at the heels of the coveted #1 spot. This is a massive accomplishment and a true testament to their work ethic considering they are the only band on an indie label that is anywhere near the top of the Active charts. Make no mistake, this is just the beginning of the group’s legacy that is quickly evolving into a global phenomenon.

Five Finger Death Punch To Appear On Jimmy Kimmel

In a time where society is plagued with economic despair and political turmoil is running rampant, there are many people that refuse to let their country just go to hell and are uniting to convey one defining message: WAR IS THE ANSWER.
One of these special groups of individuals that firmly back this sentiment is Five Finger Death Punch who took their message to the masses across North America this past summer as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival’s main stage line-up alongside Korn and Rob Zombie. FFDP set featured their biggest stage show yet reminiscent of Iron Maiden and Tool’s larger than life production.
Five Finger Death Punch are now preparing to make their national television debut performing on The Jimmy Kimmel Show on Tuesday, Aug. 17th. The group’s latest single, “Bad Company,” peaked at #2 on the Active Rock charts and became their 5th Top Ten charting single at Active Rock radio. Stay tuned for a major North American touring announcement to be made in the coming weeks and in the meantime stay tuned to http://www.myspace.com/ffdp for all current news and happenings.
Five Finger Death Punch at Download 2010 causing a crowd-surfing riot!
Five Finger Death Punch adhere to no preconceived ideologies and does everything on their own accord. This is a defining theme that runs throughout their entire new, highly acclaimed album, War Is The Answer, as each track fires off a perpetual sonic array of unconventional and unabashed aggression that can barely be contained. A FFDP live show unleashes a frenetic barrage of intensity and pure, unhinged emotion that is sure to leave you breathless as you beg for more.

Cradle Of Filth Name New Album ‘Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa’

Britain’s legendary extreme metal outfit, Cradle Of Filth, has revealed the title of their Nuclear Blast Records debut as ‘Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa’.  The forthcoming record from one of the most notorious names in metal is set for a November 9th release in North America.
The Grammy-nominated, Cradle Of Filth, has been a pioneer of extreme music since their 1994 debut, and has continued to evolve with each subsequent release.  The band has consistently refused to bow to convention, or conform to prevalent trends and fads, and has constantly sought to push the boundaries of their art.  This rings true once more on Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa.
A loyal stalwart to the satanic horror ethos, Cradle Of Filth has again created a concept album, this time based on Adam’s first wife, the lascivious demoness Lilith.  Throwing medieval nuns, Knights, Templars, Greek mythology, lashings of sex, occult lore, and violent bloodshed together into a creative milieu, Darkly Darkly Venus Aversa is a dark erotic nightmare set to Cradle Of Filth’s unique scope of supreme vampyric metal.

New Cradle of Filth Album Out In November

One of the most infamous and notorious names in metal, Cradle of Filth, continue to shock, excite, disgust and inspire in equal measures. On November 9, 2010 in North America, the latest chapter of the band’s dark history will be released through Nuclear Blast USA.
Frederick Jude, Managing Director of Peaceville Records, comments on this upcoming cooperative effort: “Football aside, we’re pleased to be teaming up with Nuclear Blast on this very important release. Given their resources, interest in the band, and track record in the U.S., we believe Cradle of Filth will be best positioned to better the sales of their last album in North America.”

Colossus To Headline Flawless Victory Tour

In their early careers, members of Colossus were in several formidable punk rock acts, but thankfully came to their senses and embraced their irrepressible youthful metal roots.  Now, armed with guitars and beer they are storming across the tundra of central North Carolina to conquer the world. Colossus is setting out on the road on July 8th, and will continue through July until the 24th.

colossusband Colossus To Headline Flawless Victory Tour
Raleigh, North Carolina’s Colossus sound as if they were actually taking part in the original NWOBHM scene alongside Saxon, Diamond Head, Iron Maiden and Angel Witch in 1982, but cosmically slipped through a wormhole, winding up in 2010. Their new Tribunal Records EP, Drunk on Blood, spiritedly follows on the heels of their debut album, And the Rift of the Pan-Dimensional Under-Gods, and only further expands on their love of classic heavy metal, fantasy, folklore, zombies, science fiction and ultimately laying waste to any and all who catch their enthusiastic and sweat-filled live shows.  Drunk on Blood is for people who like to party and remember what it was like to make music for fun.  When listening to Drunk on Blood your knobs most definitely should be cranked to 11.
