Meet the “Haunted” Child in ‘Insidious’ Poster Debut

Updated with hi-res version of the poster.

FilmDistrict has given Yahoo! the exclusive drop on the official one sheet for Insidious (review), Saw co-creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s latest horror collaboration that possesses theaters on April 1. Unfortunately they opted for a lo-res debut, so it’s hard to tell what’s flickering in the “haunted” child’s eye — although, it’s still a pretty eye-catching poster.

In the pic starring Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, and Barbara Hershey, “a young family makes the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further.

An official Facebook was also launched, alongside the soon-to-launch static website. Click here for new images!

BD Review: Another Look at James Wan’s ‘Insidious’

This past summer Bloody Disgusting caught the world premiere screening of Saw co-creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s Insidious (review here) and loved it.

In the film starring Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, and Barbara Hershey, a young family makes the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further.

New BD stringer Lianne Spiderbaby was also on hand and asked if she could submit her thoughts on the Poltergeist-esque thriller, which you’ll find by reading beyond the break. Also note that the version that we saw will be vastly different than what you see in theaters on April 1st as Wan went back for some hefty additional photography.

James Wan’s ‘Insidious’ is Rated PG-13; So What?

Holy crap, calm down. The MPAA has rated James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s Insidious (review) PG-13 for “thematic material, violence, terror and frightening images, and brief strong language.” Yes, PG-13. So what? What of it? I’m seriously getting sick of genre sites condemning horror films for not pushing for an R-rating. As I’ve preached from day one, a movie shouldn’t attempt to be something it’s not. I saw Insidious at the Toronto International Film Festival, and what I witnessed was a PG-13 film. It was still awesome. It didn’t need buckets of gore to be good. If one of the Saw flicks were toned down by Lionsgate just to receive a PG-13 (so more people would see it), then we can all have a two-year-old hissy fit. But seriously, calm down. Poltergeist was rated PG. Jaws was too. A rating does NOT dictate the quality of a film. End, scene.

Interview

Special Feature: ‘Saw Revisited: Jigsaw’s Long Journey’

If you’re anything like me, Halloween is more than just an excuse to overindulge on sweets, terrify neighborhood children, and wear provocative costumes (though I’m the first one in line to show a bit of skin). It’s a tradition- and for the past seven years, the SAW films have been an integral part of that ritual. Since the original SAW film hit theaters in October of 2004, we’ve spent the scariest weekend of the year with Jigsaw and his victims, walking away from theaters knowing that the following year a new chapter would feed our souls. But this Friday, it all comes to an end. With the help of SAW co-creator Leigh Whannell, director Darren Lynn Bousman, and, of course, Jigsaw himself, actor Tobin Bell, I’m here to take you back through the franchise- and bring an end to the game that’s captivated us all… And oh yes, there will be blood. Special Feature: Saw Revisited: Jigsaws Long Journey

One night, after finishing a shift at her hospital, Lynn is kidnapped and taken to an abandoned warehouse where she meets Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), bedridden and on the verge of death. She is told that she must keep the madman alive for as long as it takes Jeff (Angus Macfayden), another of his victims, to complete a game of his own. Racing against the ticking clock of Jigsaw’s own heartbeat, Lynn and Jeff struggle to make it through each of their vicious tests, unaware that he has a much bigger plan for both of them…
