Mashup master DJ Earworm has released his yearly “United States Of Pop” song, which takes the 25 biggest hits of 2012 as determined by the Billboard 100 and pus them all together in one song. You can listen to the song below and also download it for free.
Personally, I like the 2009 mashup the best. For those of you who have listened to the past several years, what’s your favorite? READ MORE
Got two news bits for you that are weird enough to combine into one article. The first story is that actor Johnny Depp (Nightmare on Elm St., Dark Shadows) joined Aerosmith at the Hollywood Bowl this past Monday (the 6th). The actor played guitar during the song “Train Kept-A Rollin’”. This isn’t the first time Depp has jammed with other musicians. He also appeared on stage with Alice Cooper as well as Marilyn Manson. You can watch video of the performance below.
The second bit I’ve got for you is a really weird mashup of Ke$ha‘s “Tik Tok” with The Beatles‘ “Come Together”. Surprisingly, it works far better than I could’ve imagined. You can stream the song below. READ MORE
“To me, this award means a lot because it shows that the human element of making music is what’s most important. Singing into a microphone and learning to play and instrument and learning to do your craft, that’s the most important thing for people to do. It’s not about being perfect, it’s not about sounding absolutely correct, it’s not about what goes on in a computer. It’s about what goes on in here (points to heart) and it’s about what goes on in here (points to head).” – Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters
Shortly after Dave Grohl gave the above acceptance speech at the 2012 Grammy Awards, he and his band, Foo Fighters, played alongside David Guetta, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and Deadmau5. Three of those four are very guilty of blatant autotune use while Deadmau5 is an electronic artist whose musical work completely relies upon his knowledge of computers and computerized music. Therefore, he gets a pass. But still, there is this lingering stench of hypocrisy.
YouTube user Isonine (Facebook) has created another amazing metal/pop mashup. This time he has taken Lamb Of God‘s Redneck and mashed it headfirst into Kesha‘s Tik Tok. End result? Probably the danciest metal song I’ve heard in a while. Check it out below and get ready to shake that rump. READ MORE
I’m in a weird frame of mind. Seems like more and more of todays pop stars are big hard rock/metal fans. Lady Gaga is certainly one, what with her near obsession of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Now Ke$ha is joining in on this trend by having shock rock legend Alice Cooper come up on stage in Oslo during a cover of School’s Out. So why the weird mood? Because as cool as it is that they are sharing their love of metal with their fans, these pop artists are just so…well, they just try way too damn hard to shock the world the way that the rock stars the idolize did in their time. Trouble is, our generation has pretty much seen and heard it all. So, these attempts to shock and awe us with fashion and “provocative” lyrics don’t have nearly the same impact. Basically, stop trying so hard with how you look and focus on the music you’re releasing.
I have to admit that some of Ke$ha‘s songs are really catchy. However, I can’t really listen to her in public without feeling vast amounts of shame. That’s why when I heard this mash-up, I fell in love. The video after the jump takes Ke$ha‘s hit single We R Who We R, drops all the music and adds in one amazing instrumental section. Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself!
