Back before Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner’s “WITCH DOCTOR” began we made the prediction that the series would quickly become a classic among genre fans, and if the sell-out numbers for the series’ first story-arc are any indication of just how much potential the series has, then we feel pretty damned secure in that assumption. So it comes as no surprise that Skybound has announced an all new one-shot featuring the “unique” cast and crew entitled, “RESUSCITATION”. It seems that many major publishers are trying to dip their creative pens in the murky ink of horror comics. Competition is fierce, to say the least, and writers must constantly come up with new ideas to prove themselves within the tightly knit community. For some reason, Image has always stood out as one of the best horror comic publishers. They know what fans want, not just blood and guts but a brain and a heart too. Image’s Skybound imprint, founded by Robert Kirkman, (The Walking Dead), horror comic icon, brings us “Witch Doctor”, a mini-series showcasing a grotesque and disturbing world where diseases are synonymous with monsters. If you’ve missed the first two issues, have no fear; the mini-series is set in stand-alone episodes, meaning you can still pick up this creepy book (good thing for you since the first issue sold out!). It’s 6 AM and for all practical purposes I should be asleep. Instead, I have decided to throw you all a bone and give you my staff pick of the week. It’s Wednesday, and as usual I am excited about quite a few comics; including new issues of comics I have talked about in my older staff picks such as Joe Casey’s “BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER” as well as Scott Snyder’s “AMERICAN VAMPIRE, SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST”. This Summer might be one of the slowest in recent memory for the horror industry in film, and admittedly: that sucks. But luckily for horror aficionados, casual fans, and passers-by everywhere, the comic industry is still booming with new and interesting titles that are covered in the good ol’ blood n’ guts. However, out of all of the new upstarts that are hoping to find their footing this year, there are few that have even come close to being as unique and interesting as Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner’s upcoming “WITCH DOCTOR” from Robert Kirkman’s newly launched, Skybound Entertainment. The series which follows Doctor Vincent Morrow, Eric Gast, and Penny Dreadful is the first 100% original title to come from the new publisher, and with it it has brought along more buzz than a wicker mask over Nicolas Cage’s screaming head. Up until recently news on the title has been kept quiet, but now with just a few short weeks until the series debut the creative team behind then title took the time to sit down with me and discuss the book at length.
