Solomon Kane

In Theaters September 28: The character of SOLOMON KANE was originated by pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard, the legendary creator of CONAN and RED SONJA. The film adaptation tells the heroic story of a savage warrior in 16th Century England who seeks redemption for a lifetime of sins by renouncing violence to live a life of purity, only to find himself compelled to pick up his sword once again to vanquish a growing evil.

‘Solomon Kane’ Swings His Sword To Theaters This September

Updated with three new images: I absolutely hated Michael J. Bassett’s Solomon Kane when I caught its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival a few years back (2009 to be exact). Now, after multiple San Diego Comic-Con appearances, it appears the James Purefoy starrer is finally getting a U.S. release via The Weinstein Company’s new division Radius.

Having screened at the convention this past July, it was announced that Solomon Kane will do battle with evil on VOD August 24 before opening in limited theaters September 28.

Were You Expecting To Be ‘Branded’ By A New Max Von Sydow Alien Invasion Movie Today? Me Neither!

Feel like an alien invasion movie that actually came out of nowhere (like an alien invasion)? Try Branded (aka Mockba 2017). The Russian production has Leelee Sobieski (Joy Ride), Jeffrey Tambor (‘Arrested Development”) and Max Von Sydow (The Exorcist). Nice, huh?

Per Variety, “Roadside Attractions has acquired North American rights to sci-fier “Branded” and plans a nationwide theatrical release this September. Lionsgate has home entertainment, VOD and other ancillary rights through their output deal.” In a remarkable piece of news that doubles as a metaphor for today’s film industry the report also states that the film was “co-written, produced and directed by marketing executives Jamie Bradshaw and Alexander Doulerain.

The film is, “A dark and mind-bending journey into a surreal, dystopian society where corporate brands have unleashed a monstrous global conspiracy to get inside our minds and keep the population disillusioned, dependent and passive. One man, Misha’s (Ed Stoppard), passion to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy will lead to an epic battle with the hidden forces that really control our world.

The Exorcist

Based on the 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty, The Exorcist marries three different scenarios into one extraordinary plot. A visiting actress in Washington, D.C., notices dramatic and dangerous changes in the behavior and physical make-up of her 12-year-old daughter. Meanwhile, a young priest at nearby Georgetown University begins to doubt his faith while dealing with his mother’s terminal sickness. And, book-ending the story, a frail, elderly priest recognizes the necessity for a show-down with an old demonic enemy.

The Night Visitor

A man named Salem escapes from an insane asylum where he was confined for an axe-murder. Falsely convicted under a plea of “guilty due to insanity”, he does not plan to let his sister and her husband forget that they were responsible for the murder of a farmhand and for his cruel imprisonment in the asylum.

Hour of the Wolf or ‘Vargtimmen’

An artist in crisis is haunted by nightmares from the past in Ingmar Bergman’s only horror film, which takes place on a windy island. During “the hour of the wolf” – between midnight and dawn – he tells his wife about his most painful memories.

Jungfrukällan or “The Virgin Spring’

Set in beautiful 14th century Sweden, it is the sombre, powerful fable of peasant parents whose daughter, a young virgin, is brutally raped and murdered by goat herders after her half sister has invoked a pagan curse. By a bizarre twist of fate, the murderers ask for food and shelter from the dead girl’s parents, who, discovering the truth about their erstwhile lodgers, exact a chilling revenge.
