Southern rock band Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster have released a video for Open Your Eyes, which comes off their latest album IV. The video stars cult acting legend Danny Trejo as a man with some rather sinister intentions. However, what awaits him is definitely NOT what he expected.

IV came out Sept. 27th, 2011 through Ferret Music.

Live Review: TesseracT Rocks Detroit

A few weeks ago, I got the opportunity to go and check out TesseracT, one of my favorite new bands, rocking the Magic Stick in Detroit, Michigan. Calling them new is a bit misleading as they’ve been in the underground scene for years. However, since signing to Century Media Records, their rise in popularity is nothing short of astounding. They’re currently nominated in the Metal Hammer Golden Gods as “Best New Band” (cast your votes here), they’ve toured all over the world and they have several surprises up their sleeves for 2011 alone (I can’t say what yet, but it’s awesome). Check after the jump for some live photos and a review.

Terrible Things Debut Album Out Aug. 31st

When arson claimed the homes of over 40 families in his hometown of Coatesville, Pennsylvania from 2008 to 2009, the emotional trauma of the tragedy spurred Fred Mascherino (ex-Taking Back Sunday) to pick up his guitar and start penning music for his new all-star supergroup Terrible Things, which includes Josh Eppard (Coheed & Cambria) and Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit). Their self-titled major label debut will be released on August 31, 2010 via Universal Motown and was produced and mixed by Jason Elgin (Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster, Collective Soul) and mastered by Roger Lian (Bayside, Coheed & Cambria). “The album cover is metaphoric to what was going on in my town last year and it was actually pretty emotional for me watching that house go up in flames,” Fred says of the image of his two children having a tea party while a nearby dollhouse is engulfed in flames. Fortunately for Terrible Things, the only thing that will be on fire will be the band, as they blaze a trail this Summer for a handful of shows on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour and October dates supporting Mae (tour dates inside).

Secret And Whisper Announce S. African Tour

It’s fairly evident that Teenage Fantasy possesses quite more edge than its predecessor Great White Whale. It’s a hell of a rocker, full of crunching guitar riffs and slick production. Not to mention, Charles Finn has a fantastic voice. -ABSOLUTE PUNK
Canada’s own Secret And Whisper have announced a South African Tour for May. This is the band’s first live shows since releasing their new album Teenage Fantasy (Tooth & Nail) earlier this month. The album has been receiving positive press including the aforementioned quote from the Absolute Punk review above. Speaking on the album vocalist Charles Finn offers “This album is more united than our previous work. We have different moods throughout but it works better as a whole. Of course we’re outdated because we still have the mentality of making an album when most kids now just care about a song.” Finn along with fellow bandmates Jordan Chase (bass), Jason Ciolli (guitar), Ryan Loerke (drums) and newest addition Dave Ecker (guitar) previously released 2008’s debut Great White Whale. In that same year the band played over 270 shows touring the U.S. relentlessly with bands such as Emery, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster, A Static Lullaby, Still Remains, Dance Gavin Dance and Emarosa culminating in an appearance in Japan at Loud Park alongside Meshuggah and Slipknot playing to over 26,000 people. Look for the band to announce U.S. dates shortly.
