[San Diego Comic-Con '12] ‘Solomon Kane’ Is Finally Coming Out…And There’s A Trailer!

I absolutely hated Michael J. Bassett’s Solomon Kane when I caught its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival a few years back (2009 to be exact). Now, after multiple San Diego Comic-Con appearances, it appears the James Purefoy starrer is finally getting a U.S. release via The Weinstein Company’s new division Radius.

Screening at the convention, it was announced that Solomon Kane will do battle with evil on VOD August 24 before opening in limited theaters September 28. Yahoo! premiered the final trailer, dig it below.

The character of Solomon Kane was originated by pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard, the legendary creator of “Conan” and “Red Sonja”. The film adaptation tells the heroic story of a savage warrior in 16th Century England who seeks redemption for a lifetime of sins by renouncing violence to live a life of purity, only to find himself compelled to pick up his sword once again to vanquish a growing evil.

Pete Postlethwaite, Max Von Sydow, Rachel Hurd Wood, Alice Krige, Mackenzie Crook also star. READ MORE

Bassett Speaks On ‘Silent Hill: Revelation 3D’

Bassett Speaks On Silent Hill: Revelation 3D

There have been a slew of rumors on the IMDB forums that Lionsgate will be releasing the Michael J. Bassett-directed Silent Hill: Revelation 3D on October 5, replacing the recently bumped Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. While this may have been discussed internally, we already have debunked that rumor with the Lionsgate marketing department — hence the reason it was never reported here on the site.

Bassett has been very chatty on his official blog, even taking time to respond to reader questions. Someone asked about the delayed sequel. His response: “Oh yes, I have lots of pictures, interviews, trailers, even a finished movie … But the people who have invested their money in making this film have chosen, rightly or wrongly, to hold back the release of anything until they have a release schedule for the film they’re happy with. It is their choice and even as it’s frustrating as hell for me, I respect that this is how they wish to play it.

From this writer’s perspective, holding content until a release is solidified is smart. There’s no reason to blow your wad early, especially when it could be years before the film eventually hits theaters. We’re all dying to see some new Silent Hill content, hopefully it’ll come sooner than later. READ MORE

Michael J. Bassett Wants ‘Silent Hill: Revelation 3D’ to Be “More” Frightening

An old video was just unearthed on YouTube that’s more of a franchise fluff piece than an in depth feature, although it does include some words from Silent Hill: Revelation 3D director Michael J. Bassett and star Adelaide Clemens.

I want this to be much more frightening than the first movie as well, because I think that is true to what ‘Silent Hill’ is,” said Bassett. “They are the most frightening computer games ever made…

While Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) is currently in pre-production on Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, he’s already looking ahead to his next genre project signing on to write and direct the psychological supernatural horror Saint Mary’s. Billed as a psychological horror story about an evil presence in a disused mental asylum, Saint Mary’s details the story of a group of young people who are deliberately trapped inside a labyrinthine building where they find their deepest nightmares manifest themselves. Bassett will develop the screenplay with creator and co writer Matthew Kingshott, who has been developing the project with U.K. producer / composer James Edward Barker through Veneration Music. Bassett said when he read Matt’s script he said he “immediately felt that there was the essence of something incredibly interesting and potentially terrifying.

Michael J Bassett Explains His Take On New ‘Silent Hill’ Film

Given that he hasn’t been having the best of times lately, it really isn’t too surprising. The new helmer recently sat down with Empire, giving some new info on his 3D sequel to the video game adaptation.
