Warner Premiere’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ Tourney Goes Websides!

So much for the proposed Mortal Kombat remake that Warner Bros. Pictures had hoped to get off the ground. Still, fans of the bloody battle are in for a treat as Bloody Disgusting learned that director Kevin Tancharoen – who directed the awesome online short – will return behind the camera for a 10-episode web series dedicated to the popular video game. Penned by Tancharoen, Todd Helbing, and Aaron Helbing, star Michael Jai White leads the cast as “Major Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs. Shooting will take place in Vancouver this coming February. Contested expected to be cast are: Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and of course Scorpion. No release date is planned, and there’s no word on that R-rated remake. The only plot details we could conjure up is that a few Earthlings will fight to save the planet from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, two Gods ruling over parallel universes, or something to that effect.

Mortal Kombat Kollector’s & Tournament Editions Force Us Into Tough Decisions

Looks like the game will be getting two awesome special editions dubbed the Kollector’s (I see what you did there you clever beaver) and Tournament Editions. The former will house within it a figure of Sub-Zero and Scorpion and a snazzy art book. But if that’s just not enough to satiate your appetite for all things Mortal Kombat, the Tournament Edition comes with an arcade-style fight stick controller and opens up to reveal a storage area for the game’s case (perfect for showing it off to any of your equally nerdy friends).

Both editions will include codes that unlock the classic costumes and the Xbox 360 version will have some stylish avatar costumes as well. PS3 owners that get any edition of the game needn’t feel bad since you’ll have Kratos as a playable character, and that’s way better than any dumb ‘ole avatar costumes. READ MORE

Retro Review: Alice In Chains ‘Dirt’

The early 90’s were the time when I was figuring out exactly what musical styles spoke to me and what drew my interest. It was also a time when music was…well, music, unlike much of today’s offerings. Gone were the days of hair and speed metal as well as electronic and synth-based bands, replaced by grunge, the beginnings of nu-metal, an evolving and growing hip-hop/rap genre as well as the popularization of contemporary country music. It was the end of an era that had grown into stagnation and the beginning of a fresh, new time that brought many of my (now) favorite artists to the forefront of the music scene.
Retro Review: Alice In Chains Dirt
One of these bands is Alice In Chains, whose 1992 release ‘Dirt’, is considered by many to be one of those ‘timeless’ albums that appears over and over in Top (insert number here) albums of (insert however long here). So, do I agree? Does ‘Dirt’ deserve all of these spots and this recognition? Find out after the jump.
