I got the chance to catch up with the entire crew of Butcher Babies at the Clarkston, MI stop of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. The six of us chatted touring, what’s next on the plate for the band, and I found out some of their favorite horror movies! You can see the full video interview below.
Butcher Babies recently released their debut album Goliath via Century Media Records. You can purchase the album here.
While attending this past Sunday’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival show in Clarkston, MI, I got the opportunity to sit down with none other than Rob Zombie, famed musician and director of this year’s The Lords Of Salem. During our interview we discussed Zombie’s upcoming “Great American Nightmare” attraction as well as his upcoming live DVD, which he states will not be your typical live concert fare. We also discussed his upcoming movie plans, which apparently include a non-horror film that he hopes to begin after his Bruins/Flyers hockey rivalry production. You can watch the full interview below.
El Paso, TX rock station KLAQ has taken it upon themselves to let people know of the horrible sin of using “fake amps” (I’ll get to why I used quotation marks here in a second) on stage. They brought up the example of Black Veil Brides using “fake amps” on stage during Warped Tour and now they are tackling metal band Machine Head, who are currently rocking out on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. Well, Robb and Phil of Machine Head have taken some time out of their day to issue a retort via the Machine Head Facebook page, which I’ve copied below for your reading pleasure. It’s a pretty spot on explanation of why bands are doing what they’re doing.
Oh, and KLAQ? For being a rock radio station, shouldn’t you know that those “fake amps” are really empty speaker cabs? There’s kind of a big difference between the two. READ MORE
This month on the broadcast we have friend and director Steven Shea on to tell us a little bit about his monstrous yet sexy new project “Fiend Fatal.”

A slightly breathless and hurried voice answers the phone stating, “Hey Jonathan, I’m in a van right now, hold on.” With no A/C/ and the windows shut, singer Jill Janus of Los Angeles, California thrash metal band Huntress is currently on the road with guitarist Blake Meahl to a final band practice before the band leaves for Sweden the next morning. “We’re going at neck breaking speed yet again this year.” However, this frantic pace doesn’t diminish her sense of humor one bit. After ensuring me she is not driving, she casually quips, “I’m a woman. I sometimes have difficulty operating large machinery.”
Over the course of our interview, Jill and I talked about several topics, including the upcoming Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, social media, IndieGoGo, their new album Starbound Beast (out July 2nd via Napalm Records), and their upcoming music video for “Zenith”, which is directed by Phil Mucci (Stone Sour, Pig Destroyer, High On Fire). Finnish metal masters Children Of Bodom have set Halo Of Blood as the title for their upcoming eighth studio album. Featuring 10 tracks, the album was produced by Peter Tägtgren (Marduk, Amon Amarth) and is scheduled to be released June 11th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho comments, “Halo Of Blood is the eighth studio album from Children of Bodom. Musically, we’ve kept it fresh and new while still maintaining the elements that make COB’s sound so recognizable. This new album has both the fastest and the slowest songs we’ve ever made and lyrically, there are themes we’ve never touched on before. Prepare yourselves for ten tracks of pure Nordic metal!”

One of the biggest summer festivals in the US, the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival has been bringing quality metal from countries all over the world, from platinum selling artists to underground artists that deserve a chance, and all at a pretty damn good price. Honestly, I’m a huge fan of the tour because it’s usually got at least three or four bands that I love checking out live and would normally not get an opportunity to see on such a large scale.
As for this year’s lineup, nothing has been officially announced (although Polish death metal band Behemoth is almost certainly confirmed [source]). However, that isn’t stopping the tour from teasing their fans and building up anticipation. Below is a video that shows past years and what the festival looked like along with the announcement that the full lineup will be revealed on Mar. 18th. READ MORE

At the 2012 NAMM convention, Ibanez Guitars representative Russ Rosenfeld might’ve just let the cat outta the bag. In a short video where he shows off one of the new Mick Thompson signature guitars, he states that Slipknot will be headlining the 2012 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. While this is not confirmed in any way, shape, or form, it’s still something to think about considering how many of the band members have stated that there will be a tour in 2012.
