This New ‘Carrie’ Pic Is A Bloody Variation!

MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie doesn’t come out until the 4th quarter of this year, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a steady trickle of news regarding it between now and then. Case in point? This new still that was released to Empire magazine (Scan via Comic Book Movie). It’s a variation on the previous blood drenched look we got, only the blood here is drying a bit. The vibe is a bit more “scabby.”

In theaters October 18, the Kimberly Peirce-directed redo is “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday also star.

[TV] New Casting Gives Me A Hankering For “Under The Dome”

CBS’ “Under the Dome” just made its best casting decision yet, adding Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad”, Starship Troopers) to its ranks. Not only is Norris a fun performer, but he’ll be bringing a lot of heat from the series finale of “Breaking Bad”, in which he plays a pivotal role.

Per TV Line, Norris will play Big Jim, the successful owner of Chester’s Mill’s used car dealership and also a town councilman, an office he takes very seriously.

Based on the book by Stephen King, the summer series follows residents in the Chester’s Mill community as they deal with the postapocalyptic conditions that ensue when a strange dome mysteriously encapsulates the town.

Norris joins a cast that also includes Britt Robertson, Aisha Hinds, Mike Vogel, Natalie Martinez, Jolene Purdy, Nicholas Strong, Alex Koch and Colin Ford.

“Under the Dome” premieres June 24 on CBS. READ MORE

It’s The Bloody Trailer For IFC’s ‘The Shining’ Conspiracy Doc ‘Room 237′!!

Fans of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining won’t want to miss the conspiracy thriller doc Room 237, releasing via IFC Films on March 29 at IFC Center and Elinor Bunim Monroe Film Center in New York City followed by a national rollout. The film will simultaneously be available on Cable VOD, iTunes and other digital outlets (Sundance Now, Amazon Streaming, XBOX and more).

The trailer has finally been released, which gives you a taste of the conspiracy theories surrounding Kubrick’s classic adaptation of Stephen King’s novella. Since its premiere at Sundance, Room 237 had been a festival sensation at Cannes, Toronto, New York, Chicago, AFI and Fantastic Fest. The film also won the IDA Documentary Award for Best Editing.

After the box office failure of Barry Lyndon, Stanley Kubrick decided to embark on a project that might have more commercial appeal. The Shining, Stephen King’s biggest critical and commercial success yet, seemed like a perfect vehicle. After an arduous production, Kubrick’s film received a wide release in the summer of 1980; the reviews were mixed, but the box office, after a slow start, eventually picked up. End of story? Hardly. In the 30 years since the film’s release, a considerable cult of Shining devotees has emerged, fans who claim to have decoded the film’s secret messages addressing everything from the genocide of Native Americans to a range of government conspiracies. Rodney Ascher’s wry and provocative Room 237 fuses fact and fiction through interviews with cultists and scholars, creating a kaleidoscopic deconstruction of Kubrick’s still-controversial classic.READ MORE

[TV] This “Under The Dome” Super Bowl Teaser Barely Hits The Surface

Being the network airing the Super Bowl has its perks. For instance, you can run ads for your own shows for free (I’m assuming). Even better? Since you’re not spending much money airing them you don’t really have to worry about competing with 4 million dollar commercials to get the bang for your buck. You can just air a 16 second animated recreation of a hardback cover! Such is the case with “Under The Dome”, CBS’ 13-episode summer series from Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. Britt Robertson, Natalie Martinez, Colin Ford, Alex Koch, Jolene Purdy and Nicholas Strong star.

They also launched their official website, which is pretty cool as you can see what your own house looks like Under The Dome. If it works for you, that is. I typed in my Mom’s address and it put a dome down around a store a few blocks away.

Based on King’s bestselling novel, “On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when — or if — it will go away.

More On The “Vampires” In Stephen King’s “Doctor Sleep”, Plus His Thoughts On That Film Prequel To ‘The Shining’!

A few weeks back we shared some intriguing snippets from an interview Stephen King gave to EW regarding his new novel “Doctor Sleep,”, which also happens to be a sequel to “The Shining”, out on September 24.

The interview has now been posted in its entirety and there’s a couple of other interesting tidbits. For instance, what was King’s inspiration for “The True Knot” – what had previously been described as a Near Dark-ish tribe of winnebago driving vampires, “Driving back and forth from Maine to Florida, which I do twice a year, I’m always seeing all these recreational vehicles — the bounders in the Winnebagos. I always think to myself, ‘Who is in those things?’ You pass them a thousand times at rest stops. They’re always the ones wearing the shirts that say ‘God Does Not Deduct From a Lifespan Time Spent Fishing.’ They’re always lined up at the McDonald’s, slowing the whole line down. And I always thought to myself, ‘There’s something really sinister about those people because they’re so unobtrusive, yet so pervasive.’ I just wanted to use that. It would be the perfect way to travel around America and be unobtrusive if you were really some sort of awful creature.

[Special Report] Stephen King Goes To School!

By Joshua Ryan and Peter Hannon: On December 7th, Stephen King–the master of horror–held a master class and a formal event at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. I was lucky enough to attend both events.

King walked out and he looked great, better than he did a decade ago. He waved to the audience and looked genuinely pleased to be there. The tension was as strong as one of King’s own novels. He broke the tension in the room, by strangling the microphone and proclaiming, “I’ll fucking strangle this thing,” when the microphone was not cooperating with him, the audience laughed and felt more at ease. While I sat there I felt as if I met him before. He likes to call himself “Uncle Stevie” in his articles and introductions, and I couldn’t help but think of him as this, a long lost uncle, someone I recognized but still estranged. He began taking questions from the two-hundred English students that packed into the master class like sardines, just to get a glimpse of the King. I asked him about ”Doctor Sleep” and if his son Joe Hill was an influence for Danny in ”The Shining” and if grown up Joe Hill was an influence for grown up Danny in “Doctor Sleep,” a convoluted question now that I look back on it, and he answered with a simple “No” and I smiled knowing that I just spoke to Stephen King.

[News Bites] ‘Mercy’ Casting; Spielberg Stalls ‘Robopocalypse’; ‘Y the Last Man’ Director!

Shirley Knight (Cowboys and Aliens) and Chris Browning, pictured above, have rounded out the cast of the Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions horror movie Mercy, reports Variety. Dylan McDermott, Frances O’Connor, Chandler Riggs and Joel Courtney currently star, with Haunting in Connecticut‘s Peter Cornwell set to direct. Pic is based on a Stephen King story from his “Skeleton Crew,” with a script penned by Matt Greenberg. It follows two young boys who go with their single mother (O’Connor) to take care of their elderly, senile grandmother named Mercy, only to discover that she’s a witch who made a pact with a dark force many years before.

According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg is going to push back Robopocalypse, the giant science fiction pic that he was scheduled to direct this spring for Fox and Disney through DreamWorks. Spielberg isn’t dropping out of the movie, he just didn’t want to rush an expensive film, and wanted more time to work on it. Based on Daniel H. Wilson novel and with a script by Cloverfield‘s Drew Goddard, Robopocalypse was to star Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway and concerns a battle for survival after mankind generates its first mass intelligence computer brain only to see it escape. It was set for an April 2014 release.

Lastly, New Line Cinema is moving forward with the cult classic Y The Last Man, setting Dan Trachtenberg to direct the film, says the same site. “Y The Last Man” is the dystopian science fiction comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra published by Vertigo beginning in 2002. It focuses on only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. The 60-issue series was repackaged in book firm and the series won five Eisner Awards. READ MORE

‘Carrie’ Has Been Shifted All The Way To October

MGM and Sony have used their telekinetic energy to move Carrie all the way until October. This means we have to sift through months more of their boring Facebook viral campaign before a real trailer and poster hit. Sigh.

The Kimberly Peirce-directed adaptation has shifted out of March settling in on a new October 18, 2013 date. Check out Sony’s full 2013 slate as previewed here on Bloody.

Stephen King and Jonathan Demme Couldn’t See Eye To Eye On ’11/22/63′ Adaptation

High profile writer/director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) tells The Playlist that he is no longer working on a big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63. “That’s off the table,” he shared about the film that he was first attached to in 2011.

To be certain, it’s an ambitious undertaking, with the nearly 900-page book centering on Jake Epping, who travels back in time from the present to try to stop the assassination of JFK, by going to 1958 and starting a new life that will, he hopes, allow him to change the course of history. But of course, that is just one thread in a dense novel, and over the summer Demme told the site, “There’s a dozen movies in ’11/22/63.’ We’re finding the one that we think is kind of the best of all.” But it seems the director and the author ultimately couldn’t see eye to eye.

This is a big book, with lots in it. And I loved certain parts of the book for the film more than Stephen did. We’re friends, and I had a lot of fun working on the script, but we were too apart on what we felt should be in and what should be out of the script,” Demme said, before confirming he was off the project. “I had an option and I let it go. But I hope it’s moving forward, I really want to see that movie.READ MORE

Frances O’Connor is already on board to play the mother.

Director Kimberly Peirce On The New Ending Of ‘Carrie’!

Sony Screen Gems’ Carrie stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the title character along with Julianne Moore as her overprotective mother Margaret. Obviously quite a few things remain intact from Brian De Palma’s 1976 version of the film, but producer Kevin Misher and director Kimberly Peirce have also been vocal about the fact that they are, first and foremost, basing their adaptation on Stephen King’s book – which had some key differences.

“What do you mean there ain’t nothin’ in Gatlin?”

Stephen King’s ‘Cell’ Not Dead After All! John Cusack To Star!!

One of the things about Hollywood that keeps me optimistic is the fact that cool projects can come roaring back to life. Stephen King’s Cell was once a Dimension, and we haven’t heard much about it recently. Now it turns out that former Dimension exec Richard Saperstein (1408) will produce through his Genre Company alongside colleagues Brian Witten and Shara Kay.

And they’re bringing along John Cusack (1408, High Fidelity). The film is based on King’s bestselling novel about a father’s odyssey to find his wife and son in the wake of a catastrophic pulse transmitted via mobile phones. Also? Zombies. King co-wrote the screenplay Adam Alleca (The Last House On The Left). Directors are now being approached.

More on this as it develops.

Here’s The Teaser For The ‘Carrie’ Remake!!!

Sony held their NYCC panel over the weekend, during which they debuted the teaser for Carrie, their reboot starring Chloë Grace Moretz as the title character. And now? Now we have that teaser! And it looks surprisingly large in scope, actually. It primarily features voiceover amongst shots of an absolutely destroyed town, which kind of backs up the filmmakers’ promise that this is based more on the book than the DePalma film. In the book the town is almost completely destroyed. Maybe in the next one we’ll get more carnage – though this does feature a bloodied up Carrie (with the colors muted for green band trailer compatibility). You rating hounds don’t need to worry though, they’ve assured us that the film is R-Rated.

[Book Review] ‘Let Me In’ Author Disturbs With Provocative ‘Little Star’

Although some American movie studios are making an increased effort to release features simultaneously across the globe, there’s still a substantial “tape delay” when it comes to book releases. It’s frustrating to read an alleged John Ajvide Lindqvist tweet about turning Let Me In into a book series, while knowing that his well-received 2010 novel Little Star still hasn’t reached American shores. On Tuesday, October 2, Little Star finally gets the American hardcover release it deserves, and with this, his fourth novel, Lindqvist truly establishes himself as a horror heavyweight. Intermittently touching, disturbing, and horrifying, it’s as good a horror novel as I’ve read all year. And don’t get me started on his corker of an ending. The full review follows. READ MORE
