Filmax International has provided Bloody Disgusting with the English-language trailer for Manuel Carballo’s The Returned, which declares these creatures neither zombies, nor humans.
In the film penned by Hatem Khraiche and Ruiz-Zorrilla, “Kate works at the hospital in the Return Unit, helping those who have been infected by the virus that turns people into zombies. Kate’s own husband, Jack, has been returned.”

We’ve got a new trailer for The Returned, the latest genre offering from Exorcismus director Manuel Carballo. Even with two years of college Spanish, I can’t keep up on the dialogue front. But this just goes to prove that film is a visual medium, you can tell what’s happening anyway.
In the film, “Kate works at the hospital in the Return Unit, helping those who have been infected by the virus that turns people into zombies. Kate’s dedication to her work is absolute, but few people realize that for her it is also a personal matter; Kate’s own husband, Jason, has been returned.”
Filmax is handling The Returned, we’ll keep you posted on a release date. Head inside for the trailer! READ MORE
ABC is taking another stab at developing a paranormal drama. Variety reports that “The Returned,” from ABC Studios with Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Plan B, is a serialized drama that “Centers on a Midwestern town where the dead return to change the lives of those they left behind.” Aaron Zelman, whose credits include “The Killing” and “Damages,” will serve as scribe and exec producer on “Returned.” ABC recently tabled plans for a summer series, “Weird Desk,” based on two investigators probing cases with supernatural elements.
In other news, Deadline adds that Reel FX and Andrew Adamson’s Strange Weather have acquired screen rights to Monument 14, the first installment of a young adult novel trilogy by Emmy Laybourne that Brad Peyton will adapt to direct. The first novel is an unlikely jumping off point for a post-apocalyptic young adult trilogy. It’s best described as The Breakfast Club set after the apocalypse. “A group of teens are trapped together in a chain superstore and face the prospect of life, death and love and hate while the world as they know it ends right outside.” That book was published in June, and the followup, “Monument 14: Sky On Fire,” will be published next June by the Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group imprint Feiwell & Friends. Filmax’s The Returned, the latest genre offering from Exorcismus director Manuel Carballo, will start filming on September 24th in Toronto and North Ontario. This after selling foreign rights to Australia, Latin America, Taiwan, Middle East, and Indonesia at the Toronto International Film Festival (per Screen Daily).
In the film, “Kate works at the hospital in the Return Unit, helping those who have been infected by the virus that turns people into zombies. Kate’s dedication to her work is absolute, but few people realize that for her it is also a personal matter; Kate’s own husband, Jason, has been returned.
After various brutal and prolific attacks at the hands of Anti-Return groups and rumours that the “Protein” stock is running dangerously low, Kate fears for Jason´s safety. Suspicious of the government’s order that all the returned should report to a secure medical facility ‘for their own safety’, the couple decides to flee, taking with them all the doses of “Return Protein” they have. At no point does the couple imagine that the real threat is a lot closer than they think…” READ MORE

*Updated with more sales art.
I’m kind of shocked Filmax International is working with director Manuel Carballo again after he churned out the turd known as Exorcismus.
The Spanish production house responsible for the REC films and the forthcoming thriller Kidnapped is letting Carballo back behind the camera for The Returned.
Penned by Hatem Khraiche and Ruiz-Zorrilla, “Kate works at the hospital in the Return Unit, helping those who have been infected by the virus that turns people into zombies. Kate’s own husband, Jack, has been returned.”
If history repeats itself, I wonder what classic zombie film Carballo will lift everything from? READ MORE
