Syfy Orders George R.R. Martin’s “Nightflyers” to Series

We learned back in May that Syfy, as part of their 25th anniversary reboot, was developing a series based on “Game of Thrones” writer George R.R. Martin’s 1980 supernatural novella “Nightflyers”, and the network ordered a pilot episode in June. Today brings the update that it’s officially going to series.

Via THR, Syfy is near a deal to pick up “Nightflyers” to series, and multiple deals are currently in the works. Among them, Universal Cable Productions is negotiating with Netflix for a second window domestic and first window international streaming deal.

Production on the pilot is already underway.

Jeff Buhler (Jacob’s Ladder) wrote the adaptation, set in the future on the eve of Earth’s destruction….

In the hope of making contact with alien life, eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard the Nightflyer, a ship with a small, tightknit crew and a reclusive captain. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place, they start to question one another — and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.

“Nightflyers” is executive produced by Gene Klein, David Bartis and Doug Liman of Hypnotic; Buhler; Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta of Gaeta Rosenzweig Films; Lloyd Ivan Miller and Alice P. Neuhauser of Lloyd Ivan Miller Productions. Robert Jaffe, writer and producer of the 1987 Nightflyers feature adaptation, produces.
