Netflix Just Surprise Released a Free “Strangers Things” 8-bit Mobile Game!

In just a few week weeks, Netflix is set to battle the enormous shadow monster in the second season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, which bring all of the cast back, including Jim Hopper (David Harbour).

Netflix surprised fans this morning by surprise releasing an 8-bit “Stranger Things” video game that puts Hopper in the user’s hands to save the town of Hawkins. The game is an authentic throwback to 1984 (including the game’s difficulty settings), which is the year the new season takes place.

In the game, you’ll be able to see your favorite locations like Mirkwood Forest and Hawkins Lab, while also uncovering exciting areas you’ve never seen before. You can solve puzzles with the unique abilities of each character. Lucas can nail anything with his Wrist Rocket. Nancy has an entire collection of bats to swing this time. Collect all the Eggos and Gnomes you can lay your hands on. Complete the full VHS library. You never know what they might unlock…

Giving the game a quick whirl this morning, the controls are tremendously simple to use and it’s super fun throwing wild knockout punches with Hopper. Mostly, I’m just excited to collect some VHS tapes…

    This is 16bit not 8bit

  • MadCows

How about they surprise release a bluray of season 1?

  • Alanmac

Fuck Apple and their stupid iPhone technology that us Android users had 3 years earlier.

    • turk

      It’s on Android, too.

      • Alanmac

I know. I just felt like venting about Apple since their’s was the only link in the article.

  • MrX13

Just downloaded the game on Android and will play it later on.

  • Russell McKenzie

Awesome. Not a huge fan of Stranger Things but I’ll check this out as I always appreciate throwbacks to retro games.

    • Did you hear about the upcoming console game The Mummy Demastered? That looks like a fun throwback to the retro-Metroidvania style.

      • Night of the NixEclips

It does look like a MV game. Being a movie tie in, though, I will keep my hopes in check.

      • Russell McKenzie

That looks awesome. I’ll definitely give that one a try.

  • Nahuel Benvenuto

    Love me some retro games

  • Josh Austin

how do i get this game?

    • Mightygil

it’s in the google play store if you have an android phone. It’s also linked above in the Apple store as well. Other than that I’m not sure if it’s elsewhere

      • Patrick Curley

Great to know, I couldn’t find it in the Google store originally. I’ll have ti look again.

        • Mightygil

hope you find it on there this time

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

This looks fantastic. Already liking it more than the show. All we need now is for some hacker to pull the rom and put it in a retro-cartridge.

  • Dennis Chenier

This looks amazing. I need this.

  • Yakushiji Tenzen

that’s right keep banking on that 80’s coming of age nostalgia.

  • Azwethinkweiz
