Sadly, behind the scenes issues killed the game shortly before it was finished.

The mega popularity of HBO’s “Tales from the Crypt,” which aired from 1989 through 1996, made host The Cryptkeeper a beloved household icon, with the series spawning an animated series titled “Tales from the Cryptkeeper” and even a toy line for kids. But what you probably didn’t know is that a video game was at one point in the works.

YouTube channel CryptTube, a wonderful resource for “Tales” fans, does a deep dive into the unreleased game in their latest video, noting that the PC game was supposed to be released sometime around 1995/1996. They even caught up with “Tales” artist Mike Vosburg, who worked on the game, and scored some never-seen concept art.

How did it come about? How did it fall apart? Watch below to find out!

New ‘Control Resonant’ Trailer Delves Into a Twisted Version of New York [Watch]

Remedy Entertainment followed up with the release date news earlier this week for Control Resonant with a brand-new Paranatural Manhattan trailer. Narrated by Emily Pope, who returns from the original game as the acting director of the Federal Bureau of Control, the new trailer reveals more of Control Resonant’s twisted version of the city of New York.

“In this latest trailer we are excited to show the variety and world building we have injected into Control Resonant. Our talented development team is bringing back some of the vibes from the original game, with the return of the Oldest House and Emily Pope narrating,” said Mikael Kasurinen, Creative Director of Control Resonant.

The trailer features an exclusive song “Manalan Mailla” performed by Finnish ethno-pop artist Vilma Jää. The track, which was composed specifically for Control Resonant, was written by Jää, Teemu Brunila, and Jurek.

“Manalan Mailla is inspired by the Ingrian ensemble runonlaulu tradition, with its heterophonic choral parts and lyrics based on alliteration and iteration,” said Vilma Jää. “I also included some herding calls in the song, as I just love to sing as high and as loud as possible whenever I get the chance. Working with the music-making superstars Teemu Brunila and Jurek was very inspiring and a huge honour. Together we created something very catchy while still respecting the folklore.”

Control Resonant arrives September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Pre-orders are now open.
