The ‘Leprechaun: Origins’ Creature Looks, So… (New Trailer) #SDCC

Leprechaun: Origins

…like a mush-mouth?

WWE Studios and Lionsgate have given Bloody the full trailer for Leprechaun: Origins, which stars wrestler Hornswoggle (Dylan Postl) as the title character. Scheduled to hit VOD on August 26th and DVD/Blu on September 30th, the new trailer is basically the same as the old, only it offers a few shots of Hornswoggle as the title character – and he looks awful (even worse than in this teaser art). I can only hope that, when played in context, he’s way cooler and scarier than what we’ve seen thus far. If they’re playing it straight and scary, why would you make him look so none-threatening? Sigh.

Also starring Stephanie Bennett (Grave Encounters 2), Andrew Dunbar (Alien Trespass), Melissa Roxburgh (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days) and Brendan Fletcher (Freddy vs Jason), Leprechaun: Origins was written by Harris Wilkinson and directed by Zach Lipovsky.

Backpacking through the lush Irish countryside, two unsuspecting young couples discover a town’s chilling secret. Ben (Dunbar), Sophie (Bennet), David (Fletcher) and Jeni (Roxburgh) quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be when the town’s residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Soon, the friends will find that one of Ireland’s most famous legends is a terrifying reality.

Special features on the home video releases include both the “Leprechaun: An Icon Reborn” featurette and “Leprechaun: Behind the Blood” featurette.

Okay I’m actually really digging the new look, mainly because it’s vastly different from the other movies in the series… However, is it just me or does the laugh at the end not really seem to fit with the look? Is the laugh “just for show”?

    • Khy

I agree, It’s really starting to grow on me. At least they tried to do something different. That’s more than what I could say for most horror reboots/sequels.

So, we can turn little leprechauns into this, but vampires have to be sparkling idols?

    Okay, I guess.

    Stop covering this crap

Relentlessly covering bad horror movies or movies with absolutely no promise is why they get made.

How about a: Check out what you haven’t yet seen on netflix! Like Thale,Beyond the Black Rainbow, Big Bad Wolves, Pontypool, Bad Milo, Angel Heart etc etc, I would tune in so regularly to a site if it had a hidden stremaing gems recurirng article

How bout some metal that isn’t terrifyingly awful, no more of this goth crap aimed at 13 year olds, more horror synth more Old School Horror themed death metal, Dead Conspiracy, an influential band that never got off the ground (but bands like Napalm death, Death and such site them as influence) out of Portland just released an album on vinyl, cover that for once.

great fucking idea for an article hidden gems on netflix instant!

      Stop giving them clicks then

    Looks familiar…

The leprechaun being an actual monster wasn’t really the problem with the series. It was that it went 2 da Hood. Should have gone more Monkey’s Paw than Toxic Avenger.

  • Lunatic Fringe

why the fuck is chucky’s laugh at the end of the trailer?

  • Khy

Um how is that look “non-threatening”? Is it ugly? Yes, but non-threatening? If I saw that in my closet at night I’d scream like a bitch and you know you would too, macho man lol.

  • The first thing I think of when I look at that….well I don’t think Leprechaun, that’s for sure.

  • Krug09

Looks like a naked creature not like a Leprechaun :/

  • I dunno. The trailer feels too cliched and generic, and I don’t feel an intimidating presence for Hornswoggle, and the Leprechaun doesn’t look scary.

Maybe I’ll give it a try out of boredom or morbid “I’ll give it a chance” curiosity, but this trailer doesn’t do enough to spark a ” I HAVE TO SEE THIS!” reaction from me.

  • Weresmurf

Well Warwick Davis must be sitting there laughing over his pot of gold at this…

  • Golic

looks about as retarded as the original movies were.

  • ThunderDragoon

It kind of reminds me of the Baraka make-up they did in MK: Annihilation. Well, he still looks better than Freddy did in the Nightmare remake.

  • CTHL

He still looks like a bad halloween costume with Downs, but the movie looks surprising decent (for something that’ll air on Syfy/Chiller that is… a lower standard I’m setting for “decent” here!)

  • somestrangeryoudontknow

It doesn’t matter how hard they try to make a leprechaun movie nothing will be as good as Leprechaun: back 2 tha hood.

  • What if this is just his starting form? This is the “birth” or “Rebirth” of the Leprechaun, so what if after he kills the people that summoned him he takes to form of the Leprechaun we all remember form the original films? In the trailer it shows her reading a book talking about what the Creature is and it shows a picture of the Leprechaun so this may be the direction they are going with this.

There’s a slight resemblance to the Crawlers from “The Descent” but the problem is that here, they don’t use his actual mouth for the creature’s mouth. They put some weird mask on him that makes his face way too long and the unnatural mouth just makes it look like he’s part muppet.

So i was not the only one who thought of “The Descent” XD. Guys what you expected…….WWE Studios…….they had to do it as EXTREME as possible and make the Leprechaun we know and love into some type goblin, vampire or whatever mix species he is to make him “look” “scary” and they miss the point of the original. I doubt he even speaks and only attacks and kills people. Would have been great if the Leprechaun was kept from what we know of the original but giving him a more believable and terrifying look also using his powers he does nasty things to the main characters like giving them a curse or something like in those terms.

As a fan of bad & good horror films, I find it a bit refreshing that they didn’t go the traditional Leprechaun route with the look of Hornswoggle. The Leprechaun reminds me of the ghoul from the film The Monster Club and it’s short story, The Hum-Goul, a story which I am a huge fan of and really the only highlight from that film.

A goblin leprechaun seems to make more sense than some funky looking turd with a red beard and green clothes. I am definitely giving this film a chance before talking shit about it. Plus….not to mention the fact that they actually went for straight scares than a bunch of dumb comedy or going to da hood…..this makes me wanna see atleast a decent take on the character.
