‘Before We Vanish’ is the ‘Pulse’ Director’s Take On ‘Body Snatchers’ [Trailer]

In his twentieth film, acclaimed horror director Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse) reinvents the alien movie as a unique and profoundly human tale of love and mystery.

In the acclaimed Cannes selection Before We Vanish, “Three aliens travel to Earth on a reconnaissance mission in preparation for a mass invasion. Having taken possession of human bodies, the visitors rob the hosts of their essence – good, evil, property, family, belonging – leaving only hollow shells, which are all but unrecognizable to their loved ones.

Equally hilarious, thrilling, and profound, Before We Vanish will remind audiences of the continued strength of one of Japanese cinema’s most unique auteurs – and the value of the human spirit.

The film stars Masami Nagasawa (Godzilla: Final Wars), Ryuhei Matsuda (The Raid 2), Mahiro Takasugi, Yuri Tsunematsu, and Hiroki Hasegawa (Shin Godzilla).

Opening in theaters February 2, 2018, from Super LTD, the first trailer is nothing short of spectacular, putting Kurosawa’s best on display. It looks like it’s not only action-packed, but incredibly bloody and violent.

Looks pretty awesome but there’s just one problem. It’s in some weird language that I don’t speak, definitely not American language. Does that mean I have to read? Ew. I think I can speak for everyone when I say this foreign language film needs to be remade immediately, preferably by Hollywood. That way we can all relate comfortably with a bunch of white people doing all the same things. And maybe 1 or 2 black people. The only 2 races we know of. Unless there’s karate.

All jokes aside, I give it 3 years tops before we get some shitty American remake.

I was just about to ask you what you were smoking until I realised you were joking.

Haha yeah, I’m pretty done with my country bastardizing good movies with American remakes. It feels insulting. As if to say, “Your people can’t handle other languages or cultures, so we made this watered down bullshit for you in a nice little package you’d be able to understand..” It’s like nah.. I’d rather just watch the good one, thanks.

Like The Eye, never before have I seen such utter shit as the remake. I remember being scared witless watching the korean version. The remake was tepid.

Exactly. At some point a list should be made of foreign films ruined by remakes. Wouldn’t even know where to begin.

      LOL!! 🙂

i love foreign/non-American movies so much (although it MUST be non-dubbed or i won’t watch it. subtitles only!) . it’s a shame so many people (Americans) can’t deal with foreign/subtitled films. they are missing out on so many gems.

  • GunsOfNavarone

    Strangely intriguing.
