‘The First Purge’ Trailer Horrifyingly Reflects Trump’s Comments From Earlier Tonight
Early today Trump exclaimed that it would take a “major event” to pull people together. Horrifying I know, which is what makes the next installment of The Purge so timely. You see, The First Purge will go back to the beginning, to the inaugural “event” that unified a Nation. Oh, and did I mention that it directly references the Trump administration? Universal Pictures just shared the first teaser, timed perfectly to Trump’s first State of the Union, in which a propaganda campaign sells “The Purge” to Americans: “Dad, I wanna Purge too.” Holy shit, talk about the perfect storm.

“To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.”
As for the poster, well, let’s just say it promises to make the franchise great again.
Coming off the most successful film in the series, The Purge: Election Year, creator James DeMonaco (writer/director of The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year) returns alongside the producers of this worldwide phenomenon: Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Insidious series, Get Out, Split), Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ouija series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and DeMonaco’s longtime production partner, Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers).
The cast includes Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez, and Marisa Tomei.
The First Purge is directed by Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands), working from a screenplay once again written by DeMonaco.
Sony returns to their own Marvel universe with the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, which has been bumped all over the release schedule. This week, it’s been bumped once more.
There was a time when Sony was going to unleash Kraven in theaters in October 2023, but the film was then bumped to August 2024. It’ll now release on December 13, 2024.
Kraven the Hunter will be the very first Marvel movie from Sony to be released into theaters with an “R” rating, with lots of bloody violence being promised.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the title character, Marvel’s ultimate predator.
“Kraven the Hunter is the visceral story about how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Set before his notorious vendetta with Spider-Man, Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the titular character in the R-rated film.”
Ariana DeBose will play Calypso in the upcoming Kraven the Hunter movie.
Christopher Abbott (Possessor) is playing The Foreigner, with Levi Miller (Better Watch Out) also on board. Alessandro Nivola (The Many Saints of Newark) will play another villain, but character details are under wraps. Russell Crowe and Fred Hechinger also star.
J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) is directing Kraven the Hunter.
The screenplay was written by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk.
